"Get in, Seraphina. Before I do something you'd end up hating me for."
His voice was dangerously calm, but his white-knuckled grip on the car door betrayed his fury. The restaurant's soft lighting spilled onto the sidewalk, illuminating his face—jaw clenched, eyes dark and stormy. A muscle twitched in his cheek.
I stood frozen, my mind replaying the last hour of my nightmarish "date" with Damien Valois. From the moment I'd sat down, he'd treated me like a possession, a prize he'd finally claimed after years of waiting.
"Your studies are a charming hobby," he'd said with a condescending smile when I mentioned my degree. "But once we're married, you won't need to worry about that anymore."
