"Sterling, what have you done?"  I whispered, my voice trembling.  "He was just asking for help!"

My stepbrother's eyes, usually a deep emerald green, now glowed with predatory amber as he shifted partially back from his wolf form.  His breathing was heavy, primal.

"He was too close to you, Aurora.  His scent was all over you."  Sterling's voice was eerily calm as he wiped blood from his hands onto his dark jeans.  "No man approaches what's mine."

Mine.  That word made my skin crawl.  I wasn't his.  I was his stepsister, not his possession.

"You have no idea what you're unleashing," Kaelen's whisper was hoarse, his eyes darkening with every passing second. His grip on my wrists tightened, sending shivers down my spine.


I couldn't stop the smile that curved my lips. "Maybe I don't. But I want to find out."


The heat pooling between my legs was unbearable. I needed him—needed this—more than I'd ever admit. The way he looked at me, like I was both salvation and damnation, sent thrills racing through my veins.


"You're playing with fire, Seraphina." His voice dropped lower, becoming a dangerous rumble. "I'm barely hanging on here."


I arched my body against his, feeling his hardness press against my core. "Then let go."


He released my wrists suddenly, pushing himself off me and standing beside the bed. His chest heaved with labored breaths, muscles tense as he stared down at me.
