Chapter 67 - Isolde's Despair, Kaelen's Threat
My heart raced with anticipation as I drove home. Despite everything—the lies, the secrecy, Isolde's presence—I couldn't deny the thrill of knowing Kaelen had a surprise waiting for me. It was wrong, so wrong, but the pull between us was magnetic.
I parked my car in the driveway of his sprawling mansion, checking my reflection in the rearview mirror. My cheeks were flushed, eyes bright with excitement. I knew this relationship had an expiration date. Kaelen would marry Isolde eventually—a perfect match of wealth and social standing. But until then, I couldn't resist him.
As I approached the front door, I wondered what surprise he had planned. Perhaps those diamond earrings I'd admired last weekend? Or maybe he'd booked us a secret weekend getaway.
I slipped my key into the lock and pushed the door open. The grand foyer was quiet, sunlight streaming through the tall windows. "Kaelen?" I called out.
No answer.
