Chapter 31 - Guilt, Desire, and a Knock at the Door
Kaelen's dismissive order to go home early left me with mixed feelings. Part of me was relieved to escape the suffocating tension at the office. Another part—a part I was trying desperately to ignore—missed his commanding presence already.

Elara nodded sympathetically. "Well, at least you get to leave early today."
"By Sterling's orders." I tried to sound annoyed rather than affected.
"That man," Elara sighed dreamily. "He's tough but fair."
I bit my tongue. Fair wasn't exactly the word I'd use to describe Kaelen Sterling.
