Chapter 89 - The Alpha's Breaking Point
I woke to cold sheets beside me. Kaelen was gone.
Sitting up groggily, I glanced at the clock on my nightstand. 6:30 AM. The memories of last night flooded back - his tenderness, his care, those three words whispered in the darkness. Had I dreamed that part?
"Kaelen?" I called out, my voice still thick with sleep.
No answer. The bathroom door stood open, lights off. His side of the bed was cold, meaning he'd been gone for a while.
I wrapped my arms around myself, feeling strangely abandoned. After the gentleness he'd shown last night, waking up alone felt jarring. Had he regretted his vulnerability? Or was it just business as usual for the Alpha CEO?
Slipping out of bed, I padded to the door, half-expecting to find it locked as always. To my surprise, it opened easily. Another small mercy from last night that had carried into today.
