"Or what, Kaelen?" The words hung between us like a challenge I immediately regretted.

His eyes darkened to forest green, pupils dilating with something primal and possessive. That smile—cold and calculated—sent ice through my veins.

"Would you like to find out?" he asked, his voice silky with promise.

I swallowed hard, the lump in my throat painful as I tried to back away. His grip on my wrist remained unbreakable.

"You're hurting me," I whispered, hoping to appeal to whatever humanity lurked beneath his obsession.

His grip loosened slightly, but his focus remained on the silver bracelet. "This," he said, flicking the small star charm with his finger, "is unacceptable."

"It's just jewelry," I insisted. "It doesn't mean anything."

"If it doesn't mean anything, then removing it shouldn't be a problem." His logic was a trap, designed to corner me.
