Chapter 29: A New Family and an Alpha's Invitation
I woke up the next morning feeling lighter than I had in years. The weight I'd carried—believing I had to protect my mother from change—had lifted. She deserved her happiness with her true mate.
Last night, after our emotional conversation, Mom had called Gamma Alaric. I'd never heard such joy in her voice as she told him she was ready to accept their bond. The relief in his deep voice carried through the phone even to where I sat.
"Good morning," Mom said as I entered our small kitchen. She was humming—actually humming—while making breakfast.
"Someone's happy," I teased, pouring myself coffee.
She blushed. "Alaric called again this morning. He's already feeling better."
"That's great, Mom." I hugged her quickly before grabbing some toast. "The mate bond works fast."
"It does." Her smile was radiant. "He wants us to have dinner with him and Gareth tomorrow night."
