Chapter 168: Flight into Exile, An Ominous News Report
Aria's POV
Three days. Three days of existing in a fog so thick I could barely breathe through it.
I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, the words "arranged marriage" playing on repeat in my mind like a cruel song I couldn't shut off. Each time the phrase circled back, the knife in my chest twisted deeper.
Lucian was marrying someone else. An Alpha's daughter. Someone worthy of him.
I pressed my palms against my eyes until stars burst behind my eyelids. The pain was almost welcome—at least it was something different from the hollowness eating me from inside.
My phone buzzed for the twentieth time today. Vivienne again. I couldn't bring myself to answer. What would I say? That I was fine? That my heart wasn't shattered beyond repair?
"Aria?" Mom's gentle knock at my door startled me. "Dinner's ready, sweetheart."
"I'm not hungry." My voice sounded strange, like it belonged to someone else.
