Chapter 32: A Stunning Transformation and a Fateful Gaze
"Hold still!" A young woman with electric blue tips in her blonde hair commanded as she applied something to my eyelids.
I tried not to flinch as the makeup brush tickled my skin. Marissa, Gareth's cousin and apparently a makeup artist, had been working on me for over an hour.
"I don't usually wear this much makeup," I mumbled, trying to keep my lips still as she lined them with precision.
"That's obvious," she replied, not unkindly. "But tonight's different. Gareth says it's time for your grand debut."
"It's just a party," I protested weakly.
Marissa stepped back, admiring her work. "Honey, with cheekbones like yours, nothing is 'just' anything."
After the salon, where my dull brown hair had been transformed with rich dark chocolate dye and strategic layers, we'd come to Marissa's apartment for the final touches. The reflection in the mirror was becoming less recognizable by the minute.
