Chapter 77: A Date, Strange Observers, and an Alpha's Vigil
Time froze around me at Caleb's confession. My mouth opened, but no words came out. What was I supposed to say?
"Aria," Caleb said gently, his eyes soft as he looked at me. "I understand this is awkward. You don't have to answer right now."
I blinked rapidly, my thoughts spinning like a tornado. "Caleb, I—"
"Take your time," he squeezed my hand. "I just wanted you to know how I feel. The last thing I want is to lose your friendship over this."
His understanding only made things harder. Why couldn't he have been a jerk about it? That would've made rejecting him so much easier.
"You're a good guy," I said finally, the words barely above a whisper.
And he was. Unlike Lucian, Caleb had never hurt me. He'd been consistently kind, supportive, and honest. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about what it might be like to be with him.
"Whatever you decide, I'll respect it," he said, releasing my hand.
