Chapter 13

Little did I know back then, but as fate would have it, when I returned that day, I spotted Derek from a distance. He’d clearly been waiting by my door for a very long time.

He was sobbing uncontrollably, his previously immaculate custom-made suit now replaced by a simple T-shirt.

Seeing him in such a state, it finally dawned on me that Marcus, that dear fool, had secretly been up to something behind my back, seeking revenge on my behalf.

"I know the truth now," Derek choked out between sobs. "I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry."

"I always believed your father asked me to keep you grounded, to stay by your side, because he feared you might leave our circle, that you'd face hardship out in the world. But I never imagined he would actually imprison you, and even forcibly sever the spiritual connection between us."

At that moment, Derek was like a child of seven or eight, crying with a heart-wrenching despair that seemed to rip him apart.
