A Family Dinner With His Mistress

Chapter 7

Cossette's POV

I wore the most gorgeous dress I owned — a dark green, short, voluminous that my dad had bought me just days before he died. It was a special edition, only three in the world. Anika had been searching for it for months but never found it.

I straightened my ginger hair and kept my makeup clean and simple. Now, I was ready to face them both.

I entered the special guest room at the restaurant.

There they were — Anika and Frost, sitting next to each other.

When she saw me in this dress, her face immediately changed — a mix of jealousy and anger

Frost was staring at me from head to toe like he always did, silent and unreadable.

I called out, "Mom! I missed you!" and rushed to hug Anika.

Her face froze. Frost's did too.

Anika said coldly, "You called me mom? Since when, Cossette?"

I smiled sweetly, "Well, a very beautiful woman like you in her late thirties doesn't deserve to be called mom, but I just wanted to."

Then I looked at Frost. "Hey, Frost."

He replied coldly, "Hey."

It was funny — just before I came in, I saw them talking. He was so normal and warm with her, but with me… he was a cold statue.

I turned back to Anika. "So, Frost called you?"

She nodded, "Yes, he did."

I added with a smile, "I told him to call you, but I thought he didn't have your number. Why would he need it?" Then I added, "But I guess he found a way to get it?"

Both their faces were unreadable.

Anika replied, "Yes, just in case he needs something one day."

In my mind: You mean one night, mostly.

"So, what will you guys order?" I asked.

Anika said, "Salad. I'm on a diet."

I smiled, "Yeah, your body is amazing, Anika. Almost as beautiful as mine. Maybe I'll get the same salad."

She looked at me like she wanted to kill me — well, she probably did, just waiting for the right moment.

The food server came to take our order. Frost said, "Lobster soup for me, and two salads."

I interrupted, "No, sorry, babe, no salad for me. My body will be perfect no matter what I eat because what's good is being normal and happy. I want shrimp pasta and steak with French fries."

They both stared at me like I'd just landed from outer space — apparently, eating like this in high society was weird. Crazy.

Frost stayed silent. So did Anika.

The server left and returned a few minutes later with our food.

We started eating and chatting until I turned to Anika and asked, "Do you have someone in your life?"

She froze again. Frost choked on his lobster soup.

"No," she said coldly. "How could I? Your father died less than a year ago. Peace to his soul."

I dialed my acting up to 1000%, "Oh, Anika, you're so pretty — you must've had some adventures. At least some fun with a nice young CEO."

Both of them looked shocked.

Anika said stiffly, "No, I don't have time for this."

In my mind: Yeah, you have time to f*ck my husband and kill me...

Frost snapped, "Can we eat in silence, please?"

I smiled widely, "Of course, baby."

Dinner ended, and we began to stand up. Just before leaving, I turned and said, "Oh wait — I forgot to tell you something very important…"
