It was raining heavily in the city.
The news had warned that the rain would continue for another two days. Everyone on the streets wore raincoats or carried umbrellas, trying their best to stay dry.
It was around 11 PM.
In the northwestern corner of Sea Shine City, a small restaurant named Swad sat quietly on a busy street. It wasn't fancy, but it was always filled with customers.
Now, at 1 AM, most of the crowd had thinned. It was closing time.
A young man in a waiter's uniform stepped out from the restaurant. He wasn't particularly handsome, but his eyes were clear and his jet-black hair gleamed under the streetlight. He looked exhausted.
His name was Yang Tie.
He was an orphan—abandoned at birth and raised in an orphanage. But over time, all the other children were adopted. Only he was left behind. Eventually, the orphanage shut down, and Yang Tie found himself out on the streets.
There was nothing he could do about it. He accepted his fate.
By sheer luck, he managed to enroll in a local high school. But he had no money—not for tuition, not for books, not even for food.
School wouldn't start for another six months, so he had time. He tried applying for jobs everywhere, but no one wanted to hire him. He was underage—a minor.
These days, government law strictly prohibited employing minors. Employers who broke the rule could be heavily fined, so most job listings required applicants to be at least 18 years old.
Then, three months ago, he found Swad.
The restaurant was hiring waiters, and the pay was decent. He applied. At first, they were reluctant to take him in, but after he explained his situation, they agreed. Not only did they give him a job, but they also offered food and even a little extra money to help him prepare for school.
Yang Tie was truly grateful.
Now, back to the present...
"Damn this rain," Yang Tie muttered under his breath. "If I had known, I would've brought my sack."
He didn't own a raincoat, so he usually used an old sack to protect himself from the rain. But he'd left it behind today.
He had just received his pay and wanted to get home early, but the rain was coming down in sheets.
"Ugh… guess I'm getting soaked tonight," he sighed, stepping out into the downpour.
He clutched his paycheck tightly in his pocket and started running. It was already late, and this part of town wasn't exactly safe after midnight. Thugs and street gangs often roamed these streets looking for easy targets.
His home was at the far edge of the northwestern district—about a 30-minute walk from the restaurant.
Yang Tie ran through the empty streets, too focused on protecting his money to pay much attention to his surroundings.
Suddenly—
A red Ferrari came speeding down the road behind him.
The streets were nearly empty this late at night, and the driver wasn't expecting anyone to be out. The car was moving fast—far too fast.
The moment the driver spotted Yang Tie in the rain, they slammed on the brakes.
But it was too late.
BAM!
—— ——— ———
In the emergency ward of a nearby hospital, a young man lay unconscious on a hospital bed.
Both his arms and legs were wrapped in bandages. No one knew how long he had been unconscious.
And then—
He opened his eyes.
And the moment he did, his mind reeled.
His vision was...
