I stared at the email notification on my phone, scanning the words again to make sure I wasn't imagining them.

"No issues. You can submit it."

Four simple words from Zachary that validated months of painstaking work. My thesis was finally ready for submission. A wave of satisfaction washed over me, momentarily pushing aside the lingering frustration from yesterday's interaction with Dylan.

I set my phone down and glanced at the baby monitor. Cora was still fast asleep, her little chest rising and falling steadily. She'd been exhausted when she arrived last night, practically falling asleep in my arms before I could even get her pajamas on.

The memory of standing in the cold with my grandmother, Clara, waiting for a car that arrived with only my daughter and a driver, reignited my irritation. Dylan couldn't even be bothered to drop off our daughter himself or give me proper notice.
