Chapter 7

But it was as if Connor hadn't heard a word. He turned and bolted from the hospital, racing straight home in his car.

He called me again on the way.

But the only response he got was the notification that my phone was still off.

Connor clung to a final shred of hope, praying over and over that I was just throwing a bigger tantrum this time.

He was sure I was at home waiting for him, just like I always was.

All he had to do was say a few sweet words.

And I would give in.

His mind raced with frantic thoughts the entire way, and when Connor finally reached the house, he pushed the door open with trembling hands and yelled, "Honey!"

But this time, his call was met with dead silence. Not a single sound in response.

Connor's panic intensified. Breaking out in a cold sweat, he desperately searched every room for any trace of me.

He didn't even spare the storage closet.

But there was no sign of me anywhere. Not only me, but everything that belonged to me had vanished as well.
