Chapter 5

It all came rushing back to me.

Ben and I had gone to that auction together.

Ben told me to drink less and even poured me a glass of plain water.

He'd apologized to the others, saying he had to take care of an urgent company matter.

And then he left me there all alone.

I had been racking my brain, trying to figure out where I had been set up.

But I never once suspected the glass of water Ben had given me.

For a moment, I was at a loss for words.

Bastard. Monster. Scumbag.

But even those words were not enough to vent the fury raging inside me.

My vision began to blur.

But Ben continued to flay me with his words.

"What? Not convinced? You know damn well how you got those other contracts."

"That guy Wellington was already into you. What's wrong with me giving you two a little push?"

I braced myself against the wall, struggling to breathe.

"Ben, Wellington and I never..."

He held up a hand, cutting me off.

"You know in your heart whether you did or not."

"If you were really so pure and innocent, why would you be infertile?"

I let out a sarcastic laugh.

"What does that have to do with anything?"

A look of disgust flashed in Ben's eyes.

"You don't know? Of course a promiscuous lifestyle would affect your fertility."

"Even after you cheated on me, I didn't leave you immediately. I've been decent enough. Let's not drag this on."

I looked at him, and he felt like a complete stranger.

"Are you in such a hurry to make room for your little mistress?"

At the mention of the pregnant woman, a warmth filled his eyes.

"Yes. Scarlett is still young, and it was her first time when she got with me."

"Of course, I have to do right by her."

Then, he picked up a piece of paper from the coffee table.

The paper must have been sitting there the whole time, but I hadn't noticed it.

I clearly saw the large words printed on it: "Divorce Agreement."

Instantly, a wave of fury washed over me. I coughed up blood and passed out.
