## Hazel's POV
I finally answered Sebastian's call on the fourth ring, my heart still racing from the conversation with Vera.
"Hey," I said, trying to sound normal.
"Hazel." Sebastian's voice came through soft but apologetic. "I'm sorry, but I need to cancel our dinner plans tonight."
My stomach dropped. "Oh. Is everything okay?"
"My grandfather isn't feeling well. I need to return to the family estate immediately."
The tension in his voice was unmistakable. "Of course. Family comes first. Is it serious?"
"The doctors say it's not life-threatening, but at his age, we can't take chances." Sebastian sighed. "I hate disappointing you."
"Don't worry about me," I said quickly. "Take care of your grandfather."
"I'll make it up to you," he promised. "I'll call you tomorrow."
After we hung up, I tried not to overthink his cancellation. This was normal. People had families and emergencies. It didn't mean he was pulling away.
Vera watched me with curious eyes. "Everything okay?"
