An Old Debt and a New Question

## Hazel's POV

Sebastian handed me a small wooden box as our car approached the east courtyard. Inside was an exquisite ceramic plate with delicate blue paintings, clearly an antique of exceptional value.

"What's this for?" I asked, carefully lifting it from its silk lining.

"A gift for Grandfather," Sebastian said, adjusting his cuffs. "From you."

My eyes widened. "Sebastian, I can't afford something like this!"

He smiled, reaching over to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. "He doesn't need to know that."

"But won't he realize it's from you?"

Sebastian leaned closer, his scent enveloping me. "Grandfather appreciates thoughtful gestures. The value comes from the person presenting it."

I studied the plate nervously. "What if I break it before we get there?"

"Then we'll say it represents the fragility of new relationships," he teased.
