## Hazel's POV
My heart froze as I stared at Sebastian's message. The room suddenly felt too hot, too small. I swallowed hard, my throat dry.
*I can walk all 100 steps, as long as you don't step back.*
What had I done? In one weak moment, fueled by wine and loneliness, I'd exposed my feelings to the most powerful man I knew.
My phone rang. Sebastian's name flashed on the screen. I watched it ring once, twice, three times before I hit decline. I couldn't talk to him now. Not when my emotions were so raw, so exposed.
My phone chimed immediately with a text.
*Hiding now? I thought you were taking a step forward, not running away.*
I groaned and buried my face in a throw pillow. Another message followed.
*Answer your phone, Hazel, or I'll come find you. You know I can.*
