A Kiss Goodnight

## Hazel's POV

I stared into Sebastian's determined eyes, my heart pounding against my ribs. His silence told me everything.

"Just promise you'll be careful," I finally whispered, recognizing the futility of asking him to back down completely.

Sebastian's expression softened as he reached up to brush a strand of hair from my face. "I'm always careful, Hazel. Especially with matters involving you."

The tension eased from my shoulders slightly. Sebastian wasn't reckless—he was methodical and precise in everything he did. If anyone could handle the Everetts, it was him.

"That drone show," I said, changing the subject. "It was truly spectacular."

His face lit up immediately, looking pleased with himself. "You really liked it?"

"Like a little boy seeking praise," I thought, amused by this glimpse of vulnerability beneath his powerful exterior.

"It was beautiful," I admitted. "Over the top, but beautiful."
