The Brother's Provocative Peace Offering

AURORA

My heart is pounding so hard I can feel it in my throat. Kian is here. In this kitchen. Calling me "Kitten" in front of Liam and Isabella.

"Kitten?" Liam's voice is sharp as a blade. "Why is he calling you that?"

I open my mouth, but no words come out. What can I possibly say?

Isabella's eyes dart between us, clearly sensing the tension. "You two know each other?"

Kian leans against the doorframe, looking entirely too comfortable. "We met yesterday. Didn't we, Aurora?"

The way he says my name—like it's a secret shared between us—makes my cheeks burn. I stare down at my half-eaten breakfast, wishing the floor would open up and swallow me whole.

"Where exactly did you meet my best friend, Kian?" Liam demands.

"Your best friend?" Kian's eyebrow arches. "Is that what she is to you?"

Liam steps closer to me, his hand coming to rest protectively on my shoulder. "Answer the question."

"Downtown," I blurt out before Kian can respond. "We ran into each other downtown."
