The floor beneath him wasn't wood anymore. It was stone.Cold. Wet. Blackened by something… burnt.
Rai blinked.
He was no longer in the dojo.He was alone.A field of ash stretched out before him endless and silent, the wind howling like distant screams.
Then he heard it.
Chains.
Clinking. Dragging.Somewhere behind him.
He turned slowly and saw it.
A tall figure.Shrouded in shadow.No face. No eyes.But wearing a robe… soaked in blood.
It pointed to him.
Then, in a thousand voices all speaking at once:
"Do you remember her scream?"
Rai clutched his chest.
Pain shot through his lungs.
He couldn't breathe.
"You watched."
The ash beneath him cracked like glass.
"You did nothing."
The screams returned his mother's voice. His name.Over and over.
"RAI!"
He fell to his knees, choking, sobbing, clawing at his head.
"I'm sorry , I'm sorry , I couldn't , I"
Then
Silence.
And from the sky…a sound that shattered the world.
A roar.
Low.Ancient.Not angry… but full of grief.
The clouds ripped open above him.And Rai looked up to see…
A dragon.
Not clearly.Just the outline.
Vast. Endless. Its wings blotting out the stars. Its eyes glowing with a light too deep to be any colour.
It didn't speak words. But Rai felt something inside him answer back.
The Voice Within
"Why do you run from what you are?"
Rai backed away, falling into the ash.
"The fire in your blood is not a curse. It is a wound left behind by gods who feared your soul."
The shadow behind him tried to grab him again.
The dragon's voice grew louder.
"Do not let them define you."
The shadow shrieked. The chains reached for his throat
And then
The Awakening
Rai shot up, gasping.
He was back in the great hall.
The candlelight flickered against the wooden walls.
Kaen was snoring beside a mountain of pillows.
Renji lay half-wrapped in a blanket with one sock on his head.
Jin Shōra sat in the corner, meditating with his back against the wall calm, silent, watching over them all.
And Rai?
He was crying.
But… this time it wasn't fear.
It was release.
He wiped his face, breathing in the cool morning air, trying to steady his heart.
Then he whispered:
"You're still watching me… aren't you?"
What Lurks Beyond
Outside the dojo, clouds gathered low on the horizon.
Far beyond the mountain…
…a black spire cracked through the earth like a fang.
The world was shifting. And somewhere in its depths, something ancient had just felt Rai awaken.
The gods were watching again.
But so was the dragon.
