In Lungmen, you have socially anxious, honest folks who bow to everyone they see, but you also have chumps who'll pay 200 Lungmen Dollars just to get beaten up.
Texas drove the jeep as usual, while Lucifer sat in the passenger seat, counting the spoils from his first battle in Lungmen.
However, Texas frequently found herself glancing at Lucifer, using the rearview mirror as an excuse. Her feelings were a little complicated.
She found it hard to reconcile the well-mannered gentleman Lucifer was now with the Lucifer who had just given a grown Forte a severe concussion with a single "death-pat."
And it seemed like that wasn't even his full strength.
As the traffic light at the upcoming intersection turned red, Texas hit the brakes and asked Lucifer, her voice tinged with doubt, "Lucifer, you're actually really strong, aren't you?"
"Hey, don't be a hater. That move earlier cost me half my life force. I'm already suffering from internal damage, my martial arts are gone. I couldn't even win an arm-wrestling match against a little Cautus girl right now."
Naturally, Texas didn't believe a single punctuation mark of Lucifer's explanation.
Couldn't even beat a little Cautus girl? Was this little bunny the King of Terra or something?
Although Texas wasn't sure why Lucifer was hiding his strength, she had no intention of digging for answers. After all, it wasn't like she herself was being completely open.
Still, Texas didn't dislike being around Lucifer. At the very least, she had someone to chat with.
"You're not from Yan. How do you know about internal energy and martial arts?"
"I just feel like I do."
"..."
It was Lucifer's occasionally nonsensical lines that left Texas a little speechless.
The two of them drove all over Lungmen in the jeep, and as time passed, the midday sun gradually melted into the afterglow of dusk.
"That should have been the last delivery, right?"
"Yeah... that's all of them. Work for today is done."
After confirming there was nothing left in the jeep, Texas couldn't help but stretch, her fluffy tail swishing back and forth.
Her fine figure was on full display for Lucifer to see. It was just a shame that the Penguin Logistics uniform kept Texas's "assets" tightly under wraps.
Emperor, you've committed a great evil!
"What are you looking at?"
"I'm admiring art."
Texas followed Lucifer's gaze, assuming he was admiring the glow of the Lungmen sunset. To be fair, it truly was a beautiful sight. For both Lucifer and Texas, it was a view they had rarely seen.
"You'll have plenty of time to admire it in the future. Get in, I'll take you back to the dorms."
"You're the boss, senpai."
Texas still didn't understand what Lucifer meant. But hearing the teasing and cheerful tone in his voice, she couldn't help but let the corners of her mouth curl up. A faint smile from the Lupo girl was reflected in the jeep's rearview mirror.
Speeding down the bustling streets, Texas, now one with the jeep, floored the gas and arrived at the Penguin Logistics dorm before night completely fell upon Lungmen.
With a legendary investor like Emperor, the dorms for Penguin Logistics were naturally top-notch. Even though it was only a two or three-person company, the dormitory was an entire building, complete with everything from a music room to a bar. There were enough rooms to throw a massive party.
"My room is Number 02. Pick any room you like. Pillows, blankets, and stuff are already provided."
After giving Lucifer these simple instructions, Texas kicked off her shoes and took off her jacket right in front of him, then sank into the soft sofa and began to veg out.
Looking at Texas, dressed only in a shirt and black stockings, a normal person would probably ask if the Penguin Logistics dorms were co-ed.
However, Lucifer was not a normal person.
Before he ran away from Kazdel, he had lived with Ascalon and Warfarin in an old house for who knows how many years. The concept of co-ed living had long since faded for him. Besides, it wasn't like Texas had any objections.
"Whose room is Number 01? Hiden Aruto?"
"It's the boss's, but he basically never sleeps here. You can take that room if you want, as long as you're not afraid of a certain penguin suddenly bursting into your room in the middle of the night."
"I'll take 03, then."
After a moment's thought, Lucifer finally chose Room 03. If Emperor ever burst into his room making sharp, explosive noises, with Lucifer's temper upon waking, he worried he might actually turn the boss into a sashimi platter.
After getting a feel for the layout of the dorm's bathrooms and balconies, Lucifer couldn't help but sigh internally: Never have I had such a wonderful start!
In the living room, Texas had just pulled out a cigarette but paused. After a brief internal struggle, she chose to put it away. Her legs, wrapped in black stockings, crossed elegantly as she looked at Lucifer with a calm expression.
"Now, there's a rather serious problem."
"For instance."
"Do you... know how to cook?"
"?"
Lucifer blinked his blood-red eyes. Did he look like someone who knew how to cook? Please, he was a Blood Devil. Why would a Blood Devil need to know how to cook? Wasn't that the kind of thing Xiao Man always did?
Lucifer then glanced toward the kitchen. The slightly dusty doorknob seemed to confirm that this door hadn't been opened in a very long time.
In that instant, Lucifer understood.
"You don't know how to cook either, do you."
"Maybe I should ask the boss to hire a chef..."
"A normal chef... if he saw Emperor, are you sure he wouldn't mistake him for an ingredient?"
"Who knows..."
Texas sighed and rubbed her forehead, a headache coming on. She had thought Lucifer might have some skills, but when she saw his look of pure innocence, she knew she had been thinking too much. And banking on Texas knowing how to cook was about as reliable as hoping Lucifer could suddenly start living on blood alone.
"So what do we do?"
"...I think I still have some instant noodles. We can make do for now."
"Not ordering takeout?"
Lucifer remembered seeing many delivery guys bustling about today, working hard to keep their customers from starving.
Texas mumbled to herself as she found the instant noodles and handed them to Lucifer. "That's also an option, but I remember I bought these noodles a long time ago... They expire in three days."
"Let's eat."
The pure-hearted boy Lucifer's expression changed instantly. He grabbed a bowl and boiled the water in one smooth motion. Just as the water was about to boil, Lucifer, holding the noodles, beckoned to Texas with his hand.
For a moment, Texas thought he had changed his mind.
"You're not eating?"
"I'll have two packs."
"..."
