"Looks like there's no slacking off for you today, Lucifer."
"No—"
Hearing Texas's declaration of judgment, Lucifer, complete with his own internal BGM, couldn't help but roar at the heavens. Snowflakes flutter, the north wind whistles...
Perhaps because Lucifer and Texas had been too successful at their jobs, the number of orders for Penguin Logistics was increasing day and night, to the point where they had to split up for maximum efficiency.
"The thought of not being able to slack off... I don't want that!"
"I'm not cleaning up your mess. Good luck, Lucifer."
Ignoring Lucifer's dramatic woes, Texas set off first to handle her share of the orders.
Once Texas had left, Lucifer stopped lazing around. After putting on his "corporate slave" face, he headed to the Penguin Logistics garage, where the Showa-era jeep was already waiting.
"The time has come. Let's show them our passionate combination attack."
Lucifer stood a short distance away, hands in his pockets, observing the jeep. To an outsider, you'd think he was about to get behind the wheel and randomly select a few lucky individuals to send on a one-way trip to another world.
The jeep, however, did not respond. Of course, if its machine spirit had suddenly awakened and it started flashing its lights and honking its horn, Lucifer would have had to grab a peach-wood sword and yellow talismans to perform an exorcism.
Done pretending to be a hot-blooded shonen protagonist, Lucifer started the jeep and began weaving through the streets and alleys of Lungmen, a cab full of cargo.
"How about a five-star review?"
Lucifer put on his professional smile, reciting the NPC's fixed line as he handed the package to a bewitching Vulpo woman.
She seemed surprised that the delivery boy was so young and handsome—exactly her type—and she couldn't help but stare, momentarily stunned. The Vulpo woman licked her lips and said with a deliberately seductive pose, "Oh my... excuse me, little mister. My computer at home seems to be having some problems. I was wondering if you'd be willing to help? I'll be sure to reward you handsomely afterward~"
As she spoke, the Vulpo woman bowed slightly, giving Lucifer, who was a head taller than her, a perfect view of a "bosom" that was a full size larger than Texas's. Then, she nonchalantly lifted the hem of her skirt, revealing a pair of fair, crystal-clear thighs.
Lucifer raised an eyebrow. He hadn't expected prey to deliver itself right to his doorstep. Was she always this bold?
But this Vulpo woman's blood was a bit too... impure. It was like lukewarm iced tea or cola—the purity was just too low. Besides, if he didn't finish his work today, Texas would probably confiscate all of his Pocky.
"You're testing a cadre with this—ahem... thanks for the offer, but I have Holy Relics at home waiting for me to protect them. Big bro has things to do, so big bro is leaving."
Without giving the Vulpo woman a chance to stop him, Lucifer immediately ran back to his jeep.
The Vulpo woman watched Lucifer's Ripple Overdrive escape, her heart filled with complex emotions. "...What happened? Weren't young guys supposed to be easy to fool?"
Utterly baffled, the Vulpo woman could only take her small package back inside. A label on it seemed to read, "Personal Item, Please Do Not Disturb."
"Oh well, I guess I'll have to amuse myself with this new product for now."
Gradually, some unspeakable sounds began to faintly echo from within the Vulpo woman's room.
Back in his car, Lucifer wiped away a non-existent cold sweat. "Phew, good thing I'm fast, otherwise that would've been pathetic."
This wasn't the first time he'd encountered a little interlude like this. He couldn't help but wonder if he was some kind of Blood Devil-Succubus hybrid, or if the girls in Lungmen were just really that thirsty. He was curious what kind of expressions they'd make if they knew the object of their nightly fantasies was actually a Sarkaz Blood Devil.
"The last one is in... the slums?"
Lucifer checked the final package in his car and found that the address was in the Lungmen slums.
Lungmen, the economic city-state at the forefront of the era, naturally had its own dark underbelly: the slums, a chaotic place where good and evil mingled. Unlike the posers like Brother Tiger who lived near the slums, the area itself was filled with all sorts of monsters, demons, and the Infected. Normal people wouldn't dare go inside, fearing they might end up encased in cement or sunk in the artificial river.
"I don't care if you're a gangster or a saint. A worthless life is meant for making deliveries."
Lucifer was far from a normal person.
He examined the remaining package. The recipient was named Lin, and judging by the feel through the bag, it seemed to be a coat. The address was a candy shop in the slums.
With the information confirmed, Lucifer floored the accelerator and drove to the slums. After searching through the labyrinthine streets for a while, he finally arrived in front of a rather old-fashioned candy shop.
It was just before evening, the time when children were out playing.
"Buy candy, buy candy!"
"I want that one called 'White Rabbit'!"
Before Lucifer could enter, a group of innocent children swarmed inside.
On a normal day, Lucifer would have definitely waited by the door, snatched their candy as they came out, and then stuffed it into the mouth of some diabetic old man sunbathing on the street. But this was his last delivery. Once this was done, he could gloriously clock out.
Lucifer followed the children into the seemingly ordinary candy shop.
"No need to rush, children, we have all kinds of candy here... hmm?"
The shopkeeper was a Zalak with very pronounced atavistic features. His elderly appearance and weathered voice attested that the owner of this body was gradually nearing the end of his life.
As he was helping the children, he looked up and saw Lucifer walk in behind them. The moment their eyes met—Lucifer's pupils vertical and as scarlet as fresh blood—the hair on the old man's body stood on end.
Lucifer, too, was observing this old rat.
Judging by the scent, though he was old, he was... strong and powerful. Very strong and powerful, indeed!
A Blood Devil and a Zalak sized each other up, while the children, who were only there for candy, remained blissfully unaware.
"Grandpa! How much for all this candy?" the leading child asked, holding up a full bag and calling out to the old Zalak affectionately.
Snapping back to his senses, the old Zalak retracted his gaze, steadied his breathing, and said with a smile, "Haha, no need. This old man is happy today, you don't have to pay. Run along now, it's time to go home for dinner."
"You're the best, Grandpa! Let's go!"
The innocent children left in a single, happy file, leaving only Lucifer and the old Zalak behind.
Just as he was about to ask Lucifer his business, Lucifer, who was busy examining the candy in the shop, spoke first.
"You got any chocolate? Break me off a piece."
