[19]. Sending the Saiyans Away

"Yes, we're planning to use Instant Transmission, but we'll need your help, Uncle Bardock."

Back on Planet Vegeta, Kaso had always been obscure and overlooked. He was constantly bullied by Nappa and the others, had no power or status—so who would believe what he said? Who would follow his orders?

"Go on."

Kaso said, "Over the next ten or so days, I need you to gather a group of clansmen. Ausbi'er and I will take them out in batches."

Ausbi'er sat quietly beside him, listening attentively to everything Kaso said.

"Can you take all of our people with you?" Garis asked anxiously.

Kaso gave a bitter smile. "Uncle Garis, I'll be honest with you. With my and Ausbi'er's current strength, it's impossible for us to evacuate the entire race."

The Yardrat people weren't very strong, yet they developed the amazing technique of Instant Transmission. That proved that strength wasn't necessary to learn it—what mattered was talent and mental focus.

But to transport more people or transmit over greater distances, that required a stronger power level as support.

And there was another thing—Instant Transmission also demanded sensitivity to "ki." Right now, Kaso was just a beginner, and Ausbi'er even less so.

Hearing this, Bardock shook his head. "Don't overthink it. There's no way we can evacuate all of them."

...?

Both Kaso and Ausbi'er were puzzled. They knew they couldn't save everyone, but why was Bardock saying it too?

"Don't forget, King Vegeta is the true leader of the Saiyans. The only people who'll follow my orders are my squad members."

Bardock's tone was full of helplessness. With King Vegeta in place, he had no authority over the larger group.

King Vegeta had been too obsessed with the fantasy of overthrowing Frieza. Even now, he probably wouldn't believe anything they told him—he might even suspect them of treachery.

This was the sad part about the Saiyans. After finally freeing themselves from the Tsufuru people's rule, they ended up with a short-sighted leader who was constantly paranoid about someone threatening his power.

Broly's exile was just one more example of his foolishness.

"Captain's right," Garis added with a sigh.

He had seen Bardock's struggles firsthand all these years. If Bardock weren't strong enough, King Vegeta might've eliminated him long ago. Even now, Bardock's influence likely extended to just over a hundred people.

"How many people can the two of you carry?" Bardock asked again.

Kaso and Ausbi'er exchanged glances and did a quick calculation. "We should be able to manage about 150."

Bardock nodded. That matched the number of people he could command.

"Uncle Bardock, please start gathering them. From tonight, Ausbi'er and I will begin the transfer."

Bardock and Garis stood up, ready to act.

In this moment of crisis for their race, Bardock had no time for hesitation. Even if Kaso could only save a hundred, that was enough. As long as the Saiyans weren't completely wiped out, they could rise again. Once Kakarot awakened as a Super Saiyan, he would definitely avenge them.

Night fell.

In the forests of northern Planet Vegeta, a group of more than ten Saiyans gathered.

Their expressions were uneasy and tense, as if they had just learned something terrifying.

They murmured among themselves.

"Is this for real?"

"Frieza really has sinister intentions?"

"I knew it—Frieza was never to be trusted!"

Just then—

"Enough!" Bardock barked.

This wasn't the time to argue.

Everyone immediately fell silent.

Bardock glanced at Kaso and Ausbi'er. The two nodded in response.

Kaso pointed to two Saiyans and said, "You two hold hands, then place one of your hands on my shoulder. Whatever happens, don't resist."

Ausbi'er mirrored his actions.

These Saiyans had already been briefed by Bardock earlier. They were well aware of Frieza's plot and knew exactly what to do.

Hearing the instructions, the two Saiyans nodded and stepped forward cooperatively.

"Uncle Bardock, I'll be back soon!"

With that, Kaso and the two Saiyans vanished from the spot. Ausbi'er did the same with her group.

Watching them disappear, Bardock was still amazed. He had already experienced Instant Transmission himself earlier, but seeing it again still left him in awe.

Bardock looked up. In the sky, countless stars twinkled—those weren't stars, but Frieza's spaceships, densely surrounding Planet Vegeta in orbit.

From the very start, Frieza had been exploiting the Saiyans—forcing them into constant battles, conquering planet after planet, then selling those planets for massive profit.

And now, even after all that, Frieza and his forces were preparing to destroy Planet Vegeta and wipe out the Saiyan race. Bardock still couldn't believe it.

He had sensed something months ago, which was why he sent Kakarot to Earth. But deep down, he still held onto the hope that his nightmare had been just that—a nightmare.

Until Kaso proved it was real.

"Thank goodness for Kaso…" Bardock muttered.

Twenty minutes passed.

Kaso and Ausbi'er reappeared in front of Bardock.

"Hahh…!" Kaso was breathing hard.

He had just taken those two to a distant, safe planet. Even if Frieza's ships flew at full speed, it would still take them at least half a month to get there.

This was Kaso's first time transporting more than one person using Instant Transmission. He was exhausted.

"Kaso-ge, I'm so tired! I have no strength left!" Ausbi'er flopped to the ground like a limp little dumpling, tongue out, sweat pouring down her face.

"Are you okay?!" Bardock asked, alarmed.

"I'm fine… just drained. Don't worry, I'll get everyone out tonight. Just let me rest a little."

"Alright. You two rest for now."

Bardock looked at the pair. Though he was anxious, he could tell Ausbi'er was completely out of energy. Everything now depended on Kaso.

Kaso glanced at Ausbi'er and smiled. She had done great, managing to transfer two people on her own. From here, he would take care of the rest.

After a short rest, Kaso resumed his task, taking two more Saiyans each time.

Over and over, until the night passed, he had successfully transported all of the group.

By morning, Kaso collapsed onto a bed, eyes vacant, face pale—completely drained.

He found himself desperately missing Earth's senzu beans. Once this crisis was over, he had to visit Earth.

Senzu beans were always one of Dragon Ball's biggest "cheat items." No matter how bad your injuries were, as long as you were still breathing, one bean could restore you to peak condition.

Too bad that back when Goku was little, Korin hadn't realized their importance and let Yajirobe eat them all. Later, Goku had to break each bean in half just to make them last.

Ten days passed quickly. Most of the Saiyans had already returned.

King Vegeta was still busy decorating for Frieza's arrival, completely unaware that more than a hundred Saiyans had mysteriously vanished.
