Chapter 59; mine forever

"Mine," his voice thundered through the drowning darkness, deep and final, "Forever."

She opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came out. Only a flood of icy water rushed into her lungs as she sank deeper into the abyss, the last threads of her sanity fraying with each passing second.

She sank deeper and deeper into the freezing black waters until her body no longer felt like her own. Numbness spread through her limbs, her chest burning with silent agony as invisible chains wrapped around her wrists and ankles, dragging her further down.

Somewhere far above, she saw a faint glimmer of light, pale and unreachable, like the moon behind a thick veil of storm clouds.

"Help… please… someone…"

Her thoughts echoed weakly in the void, swallowed instantly by the crushing darkness.

Suddenly, hands emerged from the inky water below. Pale, skeletal fingers clawed at her ankles, her waist, her shoulders, pulling her down with relentless strength. Their touch was ice-cold and seared into her bones.

"No… no… let me go… let me go…!"

She thrashed desperately, her screams forming silent bubbles that floated up and disappeared into the endless abyss.

Then she felt it.

A pair of warm hands closed gently over her trembling shoulders, burning hot against her frozen skin. For a moment, hope flickered in her chest like a dying candle.

She looked up.

And there he was.

Shen Xiao.

His obsidian eyes stared down at her through the dark waters, impossibly clear, filled with silent possessiveness that made her blood run cold.

"Don't be afraid," he whispered softly, his voice vibrating through the blackness like a hypnotic drum. "I'm here now."

She shook her head wildly, tears mixing with the freezing water as she mouthed voicelessly:

"No… please… please… don't… let me go… please…"

But he only smiled, a cold, beautiful curve of his lips.

With a single, fluid motion, he pulled her into his chest, wrapping his arms around her with a crushing force. The water churned violently around them, swallowing every remaining flicker of light until all she saw was him.

His lips brushed against her ear, his breath warm and terrifying against her numb skin.

"There's nowhere you can run," he murmured, his deep voice echoing through her skull. "Even in death… You are mine."

Her body convulsed as his grip tightened, pain exploding through her ribs as his arms squeezed harder and harder, crushing the air and life out of her.

The darkness turned red.

A dull roar filled her ears, rising into a deafening scream as her vision blurred with suffocating terror.

Suddenly, the black waters fell away beneath her feet, and she was standing again in the endless marble hall.

Shen Xiao towered before her, dressed in a black silk shirt and charcoal suit pants, blood dripping from his fingers onto the pristine white marble.

At his feet lay Fang Lin's limp body, her eyes glassy and lifeless, a thin trail of blood seeping from the corner of her lips.

Behind him, Shen Xuan stood clutching Bai Zhi's robe, his small face twisted in fear and confusion as Bai Zhi smiled coldly down at him, her delicate hand resting on his thin shoulder.

"You see what happens," Shen Xiao said softly, his voice echoing through the vast hall, "when you try to leave me?"

Her knees gave out as she collapsed to the cold marble floor, tears streaming down her face as she shook her head over and over again, broken sobs tearing from her chest.

"No… please… I will do anything… anything… just don't hurt them… please… please…"
