Chapter 60; STOP IT!

But he only tilted his head slightly, regarding her with those obsidian eyes that held no warmth, no mercy.

"You belong to me, Yueyao."

The ground beneath her cracked open into a gaping abyss, and she fell.

Fell endlessly into darkness, her screams swallowed by the cold void until there was nothing left but silence… and his voice whispering in the darkness.

"Mine. Forever."

CORRIDOR OUTSIDE THE MASTER BEDROOM – EARLY MORNING

Shen Xiao stood silently along the dim corridor, dressed in his crisp white dress shirt with the top buttons undone and dark slacks.

His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, revealing the faint veins along his forearms as he leaned against the cool marble wall, his tall frame half-shrouded in shadows.

The golden wall sconces flickered softly, casting a warm glow that did nothing to ease the heavy exhaustion etched into his chiseled features.

He hadn't slept all night.

His mind replayed Shen Xuan's quiet sobs, his questions, Yueyao's lifeless eyes, her slumped unconscious body in his arms, over and over like a cursed film reel that refused to end.

A low, muffled sound pulled him from his endless spiral of thoughts.

He straightened immediately.

Faint whimpers slipped through the thick mahogany door behind him, growing into broken cries that sliced through the early morning silence.

"Please… please… no… let me go… let me go… please…"

Shen Xiao's chest tightened painfully as he pushed himself away from the wall, his polished leather shoes silent against the plush Persian runner as he approached the door. For a brief second, he closed his eyes, inhaling sharply before twisting the golden handle.

The room was cloaked in dim dawn light slipping through the heavy velvet curtains, illuminating Yueyao's trembling form twisted in the sheets.

Sweat plastered her tangled hair to her forehead as her entire body convulsed with shivers, desperate whimpers breaking from her parched lips.

Her slender hands clawed blindly at the silk pillows around her, her voice rising into a cracked scream.

"Don't touch them… don't… don't hurt them… please… I'll do anything… anything… please… no… NO!"

"Yueyao."

His deep voice cut through her hysteria like a blade.

He strode forward quickly, his towering frame looming over the bed as he reached to grip her shoulders. His large hands closed around her thin arms, feeling her fever-hot skin burning beneath his calloused palms.

"Yueyao. Wake up. Look at me."

But her glazed eyes remained unfocused, tears streaming down her cheeks as she thrashed against his hold, kicking out with trembling legs and punching his chest weakly with her small fists.

"No… no… please… please… I hate you… I hate you… I HATE YOU!"

She let out a shrill, broken scream as her nails raked across his neck, leaving behind angry red scratches that oozed faint streaks of blood.

His jaw clenched as he ignored the pain.

"Yueyao. Enough."

"No! Don't touch me!" she sobbed hysterically, her entire body shaking as she fought against him with crazed desperation. Her knee jerked up, hitting his thigh hard enough to jar his balance slightly.

"Let me go… let me go… I don't want you… I don't want this… I don't want ANYTHING!"

His grip tightened painfully on her shoulders as he forced her down against the mattress, caging her writhing body beneath his as his eyes blazed with a storm of fury and unspoken anguish.

"STOP IT!" he roared, his deep voice echoing through the massive bedroom like thunder.

Her chest heaved violently as she froze under him, her tear-filled eyes wide with terror as they finally focused on his face inches from hers.
