As Vanya opened the door, she was met with a sight that made her blood run cold. A man stood before her, his eyes glowing with an otherworldly intensity. She couldn't quite place the color of his eyes, but they seemed to bore into her very soul. His left hand was massive, and it looked like he was holding something that dripped with a dark, viscous liquid. It looked like blood or guts, and Vanya's mind recoiled in horror.
A sharp scream erupted from her throat as she stumbled backward, but Theresa was quick to react. She rushed to Vanya's side and pulled her close, trying to shield her from the sight. "What did you see Vanya ?" Theresa demanded, her voice firm but trembling slightly.
But before she could close the door, a hand in a black glove blocked it. Theresa screamed and held on to Vanya tightly as she noticed the man's overpowering force. She crouched over Vanya, trying to protect her from the stranger.
By that time Mr. Jones and Joseph were quick to respond, rushing to the door as they heard the commotion and trying to calm the situation when they found out the man . "Calm down, Theresa," Mr. Jones said. "It's just a man drenched in the blizzard, I believe he's seeking warmth abd he's a royal official."
But Vanya knew that wasn't true. She had seen the man's eyes, and she knew that he wasn't what he seemed or this wasn't the man. "You're not him," she said, her voice shaking. "He had a beast in his hand, and his eyes were glowing."
The man looked at her with a mixture of surprise and amusement. "Sorry, I scared the lady," he said, raising a drenched roll-up bag I believe this is your monster . "It was dark out, my lady. I think it's just my travel bag he confined when he realized no one laughed ."
"And your eyes?" Vanya asked, her voice almost screaming. "Maybe it's the lightning reflection," the man suggested. This man looked nothing like who or what she saw, this man seemed shorter and eyes a dull green hair was blonde.
But Vanya knew what she had seen. "Aunt Theresa, I know what I saw," she said, her voice firm. "Tell them, did you see it too?"
Theresa hesitated, looking at the man with a mixture of fear and uncertainty. "I'm afraid not, my little rose," she said. "I was too afraid to look out."
The man smiled and bowed his head. "Apologies for scaring the lady," he said. As Theresa took Vanya up to her room to retire and leave the matter to Mr jones and he spoke "What are you doing out on foot as a royal official at night?"
"I fear the rumors of the wild attack are true," the man replied. "A pack of dire wolves took my carriage, and I lost my footman such a horrific sight . The two other men fled, and I'm happy to have made it here. I don't know how long I ran, but I took my most important belongings and fled.
"You must have had a lot of time to pack up your most important possessions" jones said almost sarcastically.
"Indeed, being always alert for bandits I sure can however I must tell the king of your kindness and providing warmth to his dear friend."
As the man sat by the fireplace, Mr. Jones watched him closely.
What name may I address this nobleman Mr. Jones spoke .
"I'm Valoric". The man responded.
"What house if I may ask",Jones pressed on.
"Somewhere in Dragon city", the man chuckled in obvious stop asking questions.
Just a friend of the Royal house nothing much.
I may address you as Lord or Sir.
"They all sound fun, don't they?" he laughed in major humor. He jested.
Seeing the other unresponsive party. They deep stare made him compose himself, I'm in your house seeking shelter dear sir, title doesn't matter abd you can address me as you see fit, he said more seriously.
Mr. Jones knew that it would be a crime to turn nobility away, and treason to turn the royal blood away.
He could only believe the royal seal shown, and he nodded to himself as he watched the man, he knew this man was either good in acting or just the exact opposite .
As the night wore on, Theresa wished Vanya goodnight and tried to comfort her. "Don't worry, dear," she said. "He's just a man seeking warmth. He's not what you think he is."
But Vanya wasn't convinced. She knew what she had seen, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off she also knew that Theresa knows something too .
You know something aunty, ahh my love you must sleep Theresa responded. She kissed her forehead and left the room almost immediately.
Paddy, the maid, was sharing the room with Vanya, as Theresa had suggested. She prepared tea for Vanya and tried to calm her down, but she was obviously scared too.
"I'll sleep in the coach by the foot of the bed," Paddy said, gesturing to the three-set coach. "And I'll keep a candle burning."
Vanya nodded, feeling a sense of relief. "Thank you, Paddy," she said. "I'm glad you're here."
As Paddy settled into the coach, Vanya lay in bed, her mind racing with thoughts of the stranger and his glowing eyes. She knew that she had seen something that night, something that didn't add up. And she was determined to find out what it was.
The candle flickered in the darkness, casting eerie shadows on the walls. Vanya felt a shiver run down her spine as she looked at the shadows, wondering what the night would bring.
Theresa had being pacing up and down she walked through the long hall way she looked down at the visitor from the pillar which began the wedge of the stairs and he shockingly turned up to the high stairway and smiled directly at her like he board his gaze at her.
Theresa sighed in fright, God protect us she said before leaving to her chambers.
