Throw them Out

Well, well, well… look who's thirsty for more.

P.S.: I'm curious, dear reader on who among the mentioned bunch is your favourite? I'll be waiting...

But without wasting time or words, let's dive into this scorned residence on Paradise Street.

I'm not one to gossip but, I heard even the mayor is petitioning for the tenants to be dismissed. Don't tell them I said that. It's our little secret.

MG was torn between being a good friend and a good landlady. Separating emotions from business? It never ends well for anybody. I can attest to that. But, kudos for trying though.

You see, she already had a list on her board, people to evacuate before the day ended. But everyone in there needed help, and that's why she allowed them to stay in the first place.

Jessica, the star complainer. Lazy AF. Catalyst to most fights in the house and broke.

Cheryl, off the residence most days, battling depression like a champ. Still breathing? Hopefully.

Veronica, an ex-convict for murder… but who doesn't deserve a second chance at life? But, the world doesn't move like that... Want a job, get a certificate!

Bertha, the straight-A student with a scholarship and ADHD problems. Probably just forgot to wire the money. Wouldn't be the first time with this one.

Lily, always on the night shift and wounded most of the time. Shady bitch.

Diana, an amateur online musician and one heck of a cook. Something's going on with her since Cheryl left, but she won't say it out loud. Worrying me to my bones.

Treasure, a history major graduate. Unemployed and unfit for anything else. Stubborn fool.

Flora, an amateur makeup artist and a barber on the side. Forgot her past but, I'm sure she had been rich before the amnesia.

And there's Yusra, abandoned at the door. Knows more than she tells. Even I, I'm afraid to pry with this one. Be careful.

So, Where was I? Right, So there MG was, feeling proud of her work there. Granted, she was one heck of a landlady for doing that.

She currently busy contemplating whether to write each of them an evacuation letter or just hold a meeting because, it's easier to let the rest learn from someone else's mistake.

But before she reached a solution, she heard a knock on her door. And that put a smile on her face.

She knew the intruder.

It was her best friend-slash-tenant, Gravel. But don't tell her that! Gravel hates responsibilities. And what's a relationship… if it ain't it? What a cruel bitch.

"It's open!" called out MG, turning her chair toward the door just as Gravel came into view.

"And here I thought I'd find you with a third coffee in your hands" Teased Gravel as she swung MG's door wide to let herself in.

"Ha! And chance you stealing it from me? Not happening," replied MG, amused.

She loved Gravel so much that she even took the infamous "Am I gay?" online test.

Look at you, curious for the results. Such a gossip, dear reader. It's unbecoming.

"I heard what happened" Started Gravel, signaling toward MG's bed and MG nodded before, sighing near tears.

"You okay? Or do I need to kidnap Diana for her killer coffee-making skills?" Gravel joked but, she was worried.

This one always means what she says. She scares me sometimes.

"I doubt she's going to like what'll come after" MG scoffed, Diana's name flashing in her memory from the list.

"I thought this was about Fiona?" Gravel asked, unsure if they were even on the same page.

They weren't.

"As much as I wish it could be her right now… it's not." MG trailed off, passing the crumpled paper to Gravel, who inspected it before whistling, "This is a lot of stalking"

"Oh come on! It's a work of art!" MG defended, snatching the paper back.

"It's so creepy that it made me curious. Let me see the rest of the tenant list" begged Gravel, eyes wide like a puppy.

"Behave and maybe I'll think about it," MG teased, her voice slipping into a nasal tone. She caught herself mid-sentence... what was she doing? Was she flirting with Gravel?

"You're late" she quickly changed the subject.

"My car broke down. I had to wait for help" Replied Gravel oblivious to the shift in the air.

"What's the point of being a mechanic if you can't fix your own car?" MG teased again. Which was Ironic, I mean, she was a landlady with a bunch of people living off her.

"A lot of reasons, actually" said Gravel, flopping onto the bed, only to spring up, "Wait… Did you seriously have sex here? Is he still here? Gods, MG… What were you thinking?"

It wasn't that MG hated what Gravel said. It just hurt. The first time she had sex, and suddenly she was a villain. Even Fiona's disappointed look didn't sting as much as Gravel's did. She began to cry and she had a reason to it. But, I have signed an NDA, so just play it by ear.

"Are you seriously crying?" Gravel asked, stunned.

"Yes, I am! Because it hurts—and it's the only thing I know how to do!" MG yelled trying and failing to stop herself making Gravel chuckle at the crying mess in front of her.

Psst—yes, you. I know I'm bound and everything but, can you keep a secret? No?Okay, let's move on then. Your loss...

Gravel pulled MG into a warm hug, "I'm sorry I overreacted"

"I'm not sorry I cried" MG sulked. If she wanted to keep her feelings hidden then she was playing this all wrong.

"Why should you be?" Gravel shook her head helplessly.

"I can't throw them out, Gravel. They have nowhere else to go. Why do I have to make this choice? Can't the universe give me just this?" Cried MG and even though I understand the pain behind the sentence but, as Mother Nature, this one burns and I'm not at fault here.

You see, people's fates are parallel to each other. And when they think they're intertwined or controlled? I call that bullshit.

I don't make paths. I create chance encounters. I'm just here to observe... And maybe nudge a little on my good days.

"How about you eat first and sleep. Lord knows how much you need one" said Gravel gently.

"Are you going to sleep with me?" MG asked, eyes hopeful.

"After I shower first. I stink of oil" Replied MG hoping for some distance. The close proximity was doing something to her.

"There's no water. Nor electricity in the house" Explained MG apologetically.

"Oh… so that's what Fiona's morning meeting text was about" Gravel connected the dots out loud as she stripped down to her vest and briefs. She was as flat as they came in the chest department.

"She sent you a text?" MG asked, surprised... Surprising Gravel more, "In a group chat"

"You guys have a group chat?" MG blinked, feeling betrayed. "How am I still surprised?"

Well, well, well… dear MG. As much as I'd love to wallow in your pain, I can't. You hurt me. And I'm petty enough to hold a grudge for eternity.

Mother Nature,

Signing out.
