One week later…
Dave leaned against the hood of his car, arms folded, sunglasses shading his eyes from the afternoon sun. Alvin stood beside him, hands in his pockets, glancing occasionally toward the college building entrance.
Angel had been inside for a while now. It was the final test—the exam that would decide if she could return to college after months away. The wait felt longer than it really was.
"There she is," Dave said, straightening.
Alvin looked up to see Angel walking toward them. Her steps were steady, but her face looked unusually blank—calm, but too quiet. Something about her expression made both brothers tense.
"What's with the long face?" Dave asked, his tone sharp with concern. "What happened in there?"
"Yeah," Alvin added gently, reading her body language. "You okay?"
Angel stopped in front of them, clutching her bag. Then she looked up and smiled—a slow, teasing smile that grew until it lit up her entire face.
"I got in," she said, her voice cracking just a little.
A beat passed.
Then—"I GOT IN!" she half-screamed.
Alvin let out a cheer and instantly scooped her off the ground, spinning her in a quick circle. Angel giggled, breathless with laughter. The moment her feet touched the ground again, Dave pulled her into a tight hug.
"I knew it," Dave said proudly. "There was no way you weren't getting in."
"I was so nervous," Angel laughed, brushing a hand through her hair. "But once I got in there, I just… knew the answers."
"Of course you did. You're our sister," Alvin said, slinging an arm over her shoulder. "We knew you'd ace it."
Angel beamed, still catching her breath. "So… now what?"
"Now?" Dave smirked. "Now the real celebration starts."
"we will take you home u get into something nice," Alvin added. "We've got plans."
"Ooooh, what kind of plans?" Angel asked, clearly loving the sound of this.
"You'll see," Dave said with a grin.
Angel loved it when her brothers did things like this—went out of their way to make her feel special. Like on her 18th birthday, when they'd taken her to Paris just to attend a one-on-one mini concert with her favorite artist. That had been her best birthday ever.
"firstly we go for shopping, then dinner at that restaurant you love,…" Alvin said, glancing meaningfully at Dave.
Dave didn't reply right away. Instead, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled something out. "And this."
He held out two glossy tickets.
Angel blinked, took them, and stared.
"you aren't serious?"
She looked again to be sure. The logo at the top confirmed it—Thai 1Boys, her absolute favorite band. The band she'd streamed to death, the one she made entire playlists for.
"NO. WAY," she shrieked. "You got me Thai 1Boys concert tickets?!"
"VIP," Dave added coolly. "You're going to be right in front."
Angel squealed, hugging them both again. "You guys are the sweetest humans alive."
Then, her excitement dimmed just a little. "Umm… do you think Lisa can come with us?"
Dave's smile faded. "No, not this time."
Angel looked to Alvin, pleading. "But she'd love it."
Alvin sighed and met her gaze calmly. "Angel… you're going to be back in school with Lisa for months. You'll have plenty of time together. But this? This might be the last day we get with you before the semester gets crazy again."
Dave nodded. "It's just us this time. Family."
Angel hesitated, her face softening with understanding. She suddenly felt a little guilty for asking.
"Okay," she said finally. "Just us."
"That's our girl," Dave said, ruffling her hair as he opened the back door.
Angel slid into the backseat, still holding the concert tickets like they were made of gold. Alvin got into the passenger seat, Dave into the driver's.
As the car rolled forward and the school disappeared behind them, Angel leaned back, smiling to herself.
