Ocean Café - 10:32 AM

Ethan's phone rang loudly.

Lin Yujia's messages filled the screen:

[How do you know my sister?!]

[If you're stalking her I swear...]

[ANSWER ME YOU BASTARD]

He silenced the phone with a sigh. Some things never change.

He checked his watch: three hours until his flight. If Lin Yiwan didn't show up soon...

The café restroom door swung open.

The Return

Lin Yiwan reappeared, standing tall, her black stockings flawless. Ethan's gaze caught her for a moment, then quickly moved away.

Lin Yujia's sister.

His mind brought back memories:

Late-night gaming discussions about her "dragon lady" sister.

Family pressure to marry before 30.

That dreaded phrase: "Two extra gold bricks!"

"My apologies for the delay." She bowed slightly before sitting down.

"My flight..." Ethan tapped his watch.

Translation: Hurry up.

"Of course." Her smile stayed polite. "After talking to my superiors, we've decided..."

She leaned in.

The Offer

"I'll be your protector until we verify your abilities."

Ethan blinked. "You?"

"If you want someone else—"

"No, you're fine." Better the devil you know.

He studied her. "What's your main skill?"

Lin's fingers twitched. The air around Ethan's arm felt solid, applying gentle pressure.

"[Aero Control]. S-grade."

Ethan's eyebrows went up. Stronger than Wang Zi Chen. Stronger than John.

"Once verified," she added quietly, "you'll get extra security."

Understatement. An SSS-grade prophet would be humanity's most valuable asset.

The Deception

"One last thing." Ethan checked his watch again. "My mother's illness..."

"Already taken care of." Lin showed a tablet with hospital records. "We've set up plausible deniability—' experimental treatment.'"

Ethan nodded and called his father.

The Call

"Dad." No introduction. "I know about Mom."

Silence. Then a shaky breath.

"My classmate's father works at the National Leukemia Institute." Ethan spun the lie smoothly. "They have a secret experimental drug. Life-changing."

Lin Yiwan's eyelashes fluttered. This man could persuade anyone.

When he hung up, her lips curled up. "That was... impressively creative."

Ethan shrugged. "Necessity breeds—"

His phone buzzed. Lin Yujia's contact photo appeared—a meme of a screaming cat.

Both looked at the screen.

"...artistry?" Lin finished dryly.

The Departure

"First the campus." Ethan stood. "Then the airport."

Lin matched his pace. "I'll wait outside your dorm."

As they walked out, thunder rolled in the distance. The first large raindrops began to fall.
