Jota sat up without hitting snooze. The dorm room was still and dark. Bruno snored in the next bed, tangled in his sheets. Jota moved quietly, grabbing his hoodie and stepping into his trainers.

Outside, the sky was streaked in deep blue. The city was still asleep. Jota started his laps.

One around the field. Then two. Then three. Not fast—just steady.

He whispered to himself between breaths:
