Nightmare

Within a dimly illuminated modern room. Hanna, who wore a set of black pyjamas, lay on the bed, her body trembling, her face distorted into a grimace, she was sweating profusely.

Her eyelids trembled as she suddenly woke up from her sleep, she sat up and started to breathe heavily as her body continued to tremble. She moved her hands and grabbed her hair and pulled on them trying to forget the nightmare by causing physical pain.

The nightmare however didn't subside as she kept mumbling to herself.

"I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry…" her voice was shaky and full of guilt and sadness.

"I didn't mean it I didn't mean it I didn't mean it I didn't mean it…" she continued to mumble to herself. As tears welled up in her eyes, her throat went dry and her voice became husky.

About an hour later, she stood up, her steps uneven as she walked towards the washroom. She opened the washroom door and walked towards the basin without turning on the lights.

She grabbed the faucet of the tap with her trembling hands and turned it on. She copper her hands and filled them with water and splashed her face multiple times.

Her emotions calmed with each splash and soon her body stopped trembling. She stopped splashing water as she took deep breaths and looked at herself in the mirror as the faint morning sunlight illuminated her face.

"Hah…" a long and heavy sigh escaped her lips as she continued to look at herself in the mirror with dead eyes.

Her mind was full of thoughts.

'What is happening to me?'

'Why me?'

'Why? Why? WHY?'

'W..h..y?'

'What… Did I do to deserve this?...'

Hanna thought as images of that day resurfaced, she once again heaved a sigh and walked out of her room and stood at the balcony. A small clean table and a chair were placed at the balcony with pots containing plants and flowers lining up the walls. The morning sunlight illuminated the area as the water droplets on the leaves of plants and flowers gleamed because of it. The place was full of life and made one feel at rest.

Hanna felt a little easy as she sat there with a coffee mug in her hands.

She looked at the small beautiful flowers with a bitter smile.

"He loved those flowers…" Hanna said as she cuddled with the coffee mug in her hand and took a sip out of it.

The freshness of coffee hit her as she collapsed on her chair and continued to gaze at the flowers which were planted by him. Her eyes squinted from time to time, seemingly trying to stop her eyes from watering.

She finally stood up as she got ready to face her daily life as usual.

She walked towards the balcony glass door and grabbed it, she pulled it open to walk inside but she stopped in her tracks as she suddenly remembered something.

As soon as she did so she tried to use her powers but nothing happened.

Hanna frowned and let go of the door, she then walked back to the chair.

"What's going on?"

She started to remember all the times she had used her powers within the last month and found out the thing common in all of them.

"I can only use my powers at night." Hanna said as she fell in her chair.

"So I get superpowers at night huh…" Hanna mumbled to herself in a self loathing tone.

Just as she said that a conversation of more than a month ago resurfaced in her mind, a conversation she had thought of as a joke.

"Wait… Amaya talked about that before…" Hanna said as she stood up from her chair and started to pace around the balcony.

"Nightwalkers? Moonnighters? Ah! Midnighters." Hanna guessed as she rubbed her chin while pacing.

"I have to talk to Amaya." Hanna concluded as she walked inside with hurried steps and went to get ready.

Steam covered her body as she lay in the bathtub filled with bubbles, her face had a small frown as she talked to herself.

"I have to meet Amaya… but I don't know where she lives?"

"I should ask Elise for her address." she mumbled to herself as she nodded a few times.

After about half an hour, Hanna walked out of the bathroom, she donned a casual black t-shirt, blue jeans with a black belt fastening it. A hat sat above her head.

She took out her phone as she called out to Elise.

Her phone rang for a few moments until Elise picked it up.

"Hanna?" came a sweet and youthful voice from the other side.

"Elise!" Hanna replied in a sweet and gentle voice.

"What happened?" Elise questioned with a hint of worry.

"I wanted to meet Amaya, can you give me her address?." Hanna asked

"Sure."

A few minutes later Hanna received a message containing Amaya's address from Elise.

Hanna looked at it as she finished getting ready and walked out of her apartment towards the parking lot.

She walked up to an aesthetic two-tone luxury sedan of black and white colour. She took out her keys and pressed the unlock button on it, making the car come to life.

She stepped inside and took her seat, her hands gripped the steering covered in black leather. The images of the crash resurfaced but she blew them away with a shake of her head and a heavy sigh.

"Let's go." Hanna said as she pressed the accelerator and left the building.
