A Quiet Exit- Chapter 130

Ren smiled faintly as Maki's footsteps faded down the hall.

"Hmm, well, manipulation of Maki is going well anyway. Texting her funny shit will be fun… Now, what's next? First, I need to find out how much of that fight the outside world saw. I hope no one knows I have more than one cursed technique. Gojo didn't ask me about the fight… because, well, he doesn't care, honestly. But others might…"

He sighed, pulling out his phone.

"Ugh, where is that stupid woman?"

Ren quickly typed out a message to Mei Mei:

"Where are you? Meet me at my apartment right now."

Without wasting another second, Ren stood up and left the hospital. His steps were light, almost stealthy, head lowered to avoid people's stares.

The moment he reached his dorm, he went straight in, grabbed some clothes, and started stuffing them into a backpack.

"Fucking hell. Not having Rika is going to be a pain… not just in fights but even for basic shit. I'm too used to her keeping spare clothes or toothpaste for me. Now I have to carry all of it myself…"

He zipped the bag, slung it over his shoulder, and walked out.

Ren threw on a hoodie, pulling the hood low over his face as he exited the campus. Nobody stopped him. Nobody even tried.

After all, Gojo was supposed to be the one keeping watch over Ren, and Gojo had already made it clear—he wasn't going to stop him.

The woods were quiet when Ren reached them. He stretched his arms, smirked, and shot out a thread of Red Stitch, swinging from one tree to another.

*"Ah, perfect time to test my limits. Thankfully, my 'Perfected Red Cursed Circuit' is still stable… still really good. Hm, it feels like I can fully cover my body with cursed energy for about… thirty minutes now? Still, my circuit boosts my speed and power up to grade 1 or 2 levels just with reinforcement alone… But the problem is cursed energy itself. I don't have enough of it. It's even worse now.

If I keep using Red Stitch like this, I'll burn out fast in a real fight… but that just means I'm not planning to fight anyone for a while anyway."*

He swung out of the woods, landing on the edge of the city, and walked casually down the streets until he reached his apartment.

Ren knocked.

The door opened.

There she was—Mei Mei—wearing a sleek black dress, her expression cool as ever.

"Uh, are you fine?" she asked, her eyes scanning him. "Why did you want to meet up?"

Ren walked past her without a word, closing the door behind him. He dropped his backpack onto the couch, sat down, and let out a long breath.

Mei Mei, watching him silently, had her own thoughts.

"Why did he call me here so suddenly? He looks fine… even though just days ago he fought two special grades… and won."

Without saying anything, she walked into the kitchen and returned with a glass of water, placing it on the table in front of him.

Ren stared at it.

"Uh… what? Is that poisoned? Why are you being nice?"

Mei Mei frowned, crossing her arms.

"No, it's not poisoned! I just thought you might need it, considering you've been pulling stunts again. I told you not to get involved, didn't I? Why did you fight? Huh? There was no reason to put yourself on the front lines."

Her voice had a sharp edge. She wasn't just annoyed—she was unhappy.

She had warned him before Geto's war began. She told him not to fight. And yet… Ren had gone and done exactly what she told him not to do.

Mei Mei sat down next to him on the couch, her gaze drifting to the TV, where some dull, meaningless show was playing.

Ren picked up the water glass, took a sip, and set it back down with a lazy grin.

"Ah, okay, okay, don't cry now. I won't fight anymore, alright?"

Mei Mei turned sharply, almost glaring at him.

"Liar. Manipulator."

Ren rolled his eyes, leaning back on the couch with a smirk.

"Hmm. Mei Mei… Book me a flight to another country."
