Liza paced back and forth in her room, her mind focused on the evidence Gavin had given her, the mysterious Edrick, and her hatred for Dimitri, whom she believed to be her parents' killer.
Everything seemed mixed up in her mind, so she couldn't tell what was right and what was wrong. To prove Gavin's theory, Liza decided to investigate the authenticity of the evidence the man had shown her.
She had to act fast, before Edrick found out about the evidence and killed her cousin if it was true.
Liza grabbed her cell phone and called Damian. Anxiously, she listened to the ringing tone until her eyes lit up when a voice entered her ears.
"What's wrong?" Damian asked bluntly after answering Liza's call.
"I need your help. It's about Edrick," Liza explained.
"Edrick? What should I do, Ma Cherie?"
"I want you to investigate the case of my parents' death a few years ago. Find all the evidence related to Edrick, including his whereabouts during the bomb explosion."
"What else are you planning, Ma Cherie? Don't do something stupid just because of the fake news you received. I don't want you to get hurt by meddling with Edrick again," Damian said firmly.
"I've known Edrick longer than you have, Damian. I know he wouldn't hurt me because he loves me so much."
"But—"
"Don't beat around the bush with me, Damian! If you won't help me, I can ask someone else!" Liza snapped at Damian in a loud voice. Her emotions were running high because the man who was supposed to be her fiancé always refused to obey her orders.
"Fine, I'll help you. But you have to tell me everything, including why you want to investigate Edrick's connection to your parents' deaths," Damian replied in a forceful tone.
"Tonight. Da Giuseppe's restaurant. 8 o'clock sharp."
Liza ended the call unilaterally and then got ready to go out, waiting for 8 p.m. Once ready, she left her room looking sexy, carrying a small bag containing her personal belongings and the tape recorder she had used to record her conversation with Gavin a few moments earlier.
Liza had only taken a few steps when her hand was pulled so hard that she almost fell backwards. Luckily, another hand caught her and pulled her into the person's embrace.
Initially intending to fight back, Liza fell silent, helpless, especially after she smelled a familiar citrus scent on the man's body.
"Let me go," said Liza after she regained her senses, which her fascination with the man had clouded.
"I let you go a moment ago, but you didn't move from my embrace. Are you mesmerized by my body, miss? "the man chuckled.
" Damian! "Liza shouted emotionally. She then pushed her body away from her fiancé and stepped on his foot in anger.
" Hey! Ma Cherie! I'm sorry," Damian said, still laughing.
Annoyed by Damian's behavior, which made her sick, Liza quickened her pace and left Damian. She asked the guard outside for the car keys, then sped off in her car.
"Liza, you idiot! Why did you do something so stupid? That guy must have enjoyed seeing you act like a fool!" Liza hissed.
It only took Liza half an hour to reach the restaurant where she had agreed to meet Damian. After ensuring everything she needed was in her bag, Liza got out of the car and was surprised to see Damian standing right next to her.
"You! Why are you always around me? Didn't we agree to meet at 8?" Liza said curtly, glaring at her fiancé.
"I know you wanted to relax before meeting me. But I couldn't wait to see you, Ma Cherie," Damian replied, giving the woman in front of him a seductive look.
"Pfft! Then why were you at Edrick's house and pulling him out earlier? Weren't you supposed to be on duty?" Liza asked curiously.
"I've been there since you called me. I went there to report that my mission was successful."
"A mission to kill someone? I think reporting you to the authorities would be more fun than being your fiancée." Liza giggled, noticing Damian's face turning red with anger. Now she could get back at him for what happened earlier.
However, Liza's happiness was short-lived when Damian once again gave her a teasing glance.
"I'm not sure you can do that, Ma Cherie. You love me too much to lose your fiancé. I don't mind going to jail, but I'll report you too, and we'll be a happy couple in prison forever," Damian said.
Liza couldn't say another word and decided to go inside the restaurant rather than stand in front of Damian, feeling incredibly embarrassed. If she forced herself to continue listening to Damian's ramblings, it was certain that a bullet would pierce his head beautifully.
"So... why did you ask me to investigate Edrick?" Damian asked after the waitress finished placing their food on the table.
"We'll talk about it after we eat," replied Liza.
Damian nodded and began to finish his meal, while Liza sat there, staring at her plate and stirring it as she thought about the many things going through her mind.
"Why?" Damian stopped eating when he saw his fiancée looking downcast.
"Why?" Damian repeated.
"No. Are you done eating? I want to talk to you about something serious," Liza replied.
"Yes." Damian looked serious as he stared at Liza, who had been acting strangely since earlier.
Liza took out a tape recorder from her bag and asked Damian to listen to a recording of her conversation with Gavin a few days ago.
The man's expression changed, especially after he heard Gavin's statement and Liza's screams, because she couldn't believe what her cousin had said.
"Are you sure you want to investigate Edrick just because of what Gavin said?"
Liza nodded firmly as she replied, "Yes, I have to find out everything that happened during the explosion. It's possible that Edrick was behind it."
"Are you crazy? If Edrick finds out you're suspecting him, that older man might kill Gavin! Even kill you!" Damian shouted emotionally.
"Can you calm down a little? I don't want people staring at us strangely," Liza whispered.
"Don't you know Edrick very well? I think you also know that a man doesn't like being suspected, especially by you. You could get into trouble because of this," Damian said firmly, glaring at his fiancée, who had been showing a face full of ambition since earlier.
"I—"
"Enough, Ma Cherie! I don't want to argue with you anymore. If you ask me to investigate Edrick with concrete evidence, I'll be happy to help. But if you're doing this dangerous thing because of Gavin, I won't agree! You could die!"
