"I don't think you're taking me to an interview room at all," I said, stepping back from the guard with the crescent moon tattoo.
His fingers twitched near his concealed weapon, eyes darting to check the hallway. Empty. Just us.
"Smart girl. Too smart for your own good." His voice dropped to a whisper as he advanced on me. "You should've stayed away. Left well enough alone."
I backed away, my heart hammering against my ribs while Lyra snarled within me. Every instinct screamed danger.
"Roman!" I shouted, my voice echoing down the sterile corridor. "Help!"
The guard lunged at me with inhuman speed, but I was ready. I ducked under his arm and slammed my elbow into his stomach. The impact sent him staggering back, surprise flashing across his face. He hadn't expected me to fight.
