ROMAN
My pulse hammered in my ears as I paced outside the interrogation room. Every instinct screamed at me to be by Vanessa's side, but she'd insisted on speaking with Bianca alone—just for a few minutes.
"She trusts me too easily," I muttered, checking my watch for the third time in thirty seconds.
Marcus leaned against the opposite wall, arms crossed. "She's tougher than you think, Alpha."
I shot him a dark look. "I know exactly how tough she is. That's not the point."
The memory of Seraphina's dark magic still haunted me. Vanessa had barely recovered from that ordeal, and now we were chasing down another conspiracy. Another betrayal.
I was about to ignore Vanessa's request and go in anyway when I heard it—her panicked cry.
"Roman!"
I slammed through the door so hard it nearly came off its hinges. Inside, I found Vanessa crumpled on the floor, unconscious, with Bianca hovering over her, chains rattling as she tried to help.
