The Hurricane's Arrival

VANESSA

I tasted blood in my mouth as Vaughn's hand connected with my face. My cheek stung, and I stumbled backward, fighting to stay upright.

"I've waited a long time for this," Vaughn sneered, his eyes glittering with malice as he advanced toward me. "The precious princess of the Moonstone Pack, all alone."

I backed up until I hit the wall, scanning the room for anything I could use as a weapon. My wrists were raw from where the restraints had been, and my body ached from the rough handling.

"Where's my son?" I demanded, voice steadier than I felt. "If you've hurt him—"

"The boy is fine," Vaughn cut me off. "For now. His future depends entirely on your cooperation."

My mind raced. Fabian was alive. That was all that mattered. I just needed to get to him, to get us both out of here.

Vaughn reached out, grabbing my jaw roughly. "You look so much like your father. He had that same defiant glare right before I killed him."

Something inside me snapped. I spit in his face.
