A Calculated Taunt

As Julian continued his over-the-top display of affection with Camille, I forced myself to focus on Leo's worksheet. My fingers trembled slightly as I pointed to the next problem.

"Let's try this one, Leo," I said, keeping my voice steady despite the storm brewing inside me.

Leo glanced between me and the loving couple, his young face scrunching with confusion. Even a child could sense something was off about this situation.

"Maybe we should go to the library instead," he whispered, unusually perceptive.

Before I could answer, Camille finally seemed to remember we weren't alone.

"Oh! I'm so sorry," she said, her cheeks flushing. "We didn't mean to interrupt Leo's tutoring session."

"It's fine," I replied, not trusting myself to say more.

Julian pulled Camille closer, his eyes flicking to mine with calculated precision. "Why don't we join them? I'd love to see how Leo's studies are progressing."
