The drive back felt like being trapped in a cage. Everyone except Leo was engaged in stilted conversation, the undercurrent of tension thick enough to choke on. I fixed my gaze out the window, watching the city lights blur past as I tried to ignore Julian's occasional glances.
When we finally reached the Valois mansion, I couldn't hide my relief. Leo hugged me goodbye, his small arms tight around my waist.
"See you tomorrow, Sera," he whispered before Camille ushered him inside.
Julian lingered, his eyes locking with mine before he followed them. The silent message was clear – this wasn't over.
I expected to be driven home next, but to my surprise, Tristan stepped out with Camille and Leo.
"I'll stay and have a nightcap with Camille," he announced, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. "Uncle Adrian can take Seraphina home."
My stomach dropped. Alone with Adrian Valois? After everything that had just happened?
