Beeping monitors pulled me from the darkness. The sterile smell of antiseptic filled my nose, replacing the memory of wolfsbane that had burned through my veins. I kept my eyes closed, letting consciousness return slowly as voices drifted into focus nearby.
"Her healing abilities are remarkable," a female voice said. "I've never seen anyone recover from wolfsbane poisoning this quickly."
"It's her wolf," Beta Hudson replied, his deep voice unmistakable. "She's stronger than most realize."
I stayed still, listening to their conversation through the fog in my mind.
"The ointment helped, but her natural healing did most of the work," the woman continued. "The scratch is completely gone. Not even a scar."
My hand instinctively moved to my face, feeling smooth skin where Fiona's poisoned claws had torn through. Relief flooded through me.
"Thank the Moon Goddess," Hudson sighed. "Alpha Valois would have leveled the Bennett house if she'd been permanently scarred."
