It’s a story I really enjoy because the first-person narration is so damn sarcastic, foul-mouthed, and self-aware that it feels like the protagonist is just ranting to me over beers, complaining about his shitty luck while trying not to die in this messed-up fantasy world. I love how well-paced it is, with scenes full of conflict and natural dialogue, and even though it’s funny, there’s always real danger lurking. The side characters are great too, with tons of personality. If there’s a flaw, it’s that it sometimes leans a bit too hard on the meta-humor, but overall I find it a really entertaining read with a flawed, very human protagonist you can’t help but enjoy watching fail his way through everything.
The writing is incredibly interesting, intelligent, and entertaining. The plot is captivating and exciting, and MC Darius is wonderful. Like a mix of Lloyd Frontera and Weed, but with a latent sexual desire. Captivating characters, funny scenes, and easy-to-devour writing. My round of applause to the author.
