Adam Grant didn't think I wanted to break up; he just felt that I was throwing a fit about something again.
He said, with obvious displeasure, "You've been acting irrational more frequently lately."
"How am I being irrational?" I retorted directly, with no intention of reflecting on myself.
Adam was taken aback by my response, and he finally recalled our conversation from last night:
"You always misunderstand my relationship with Lily Xavier. You saw for yourself today; there's nothing but work between us, without any other entanglements."
"No other entanglements?" I stared into Adam's eyes, and he took a small step back.
"But you always see her strengths so easily. She's graceful and poised, fluent in English, and highly competent. You admire her for each of these traits."
Adam reacted quickly; almost as soon as I finished speaking, he began to argue back:
"She does indeed have those strengths."
