Chapter 2:

The restaurant manager sensed something was amiss, so he stepped in to break the ice:

"Mr. Grant looks like a successful person, so it's understandable if he's a bit busy usually."

For so many years, I have been comforting myself with self-deception like this.

Adam Grant has always stood out in my heart; he's exceptionally good-looking and capable, yet unfortunately comes from an ordinary family.

From the first moment I saw him, I started liking him and pursuing him.

I chased him all four years of college, but he always treated me very indifferently.

Everyone at school knew he had a white moonlight, Lily Xavier, who was the heiress of the Xavier Group, beautiful, excellent in academics, fluent in four languages, and could play the violin...

Lily Xavier said Adam Grant was just her good friend, and so Adam felt at ease playing the role of a good friend beside her.

In our senior year, Lily Xavier went abroad.

Also that year, Adam's mother fell seriously ill, and her dying wish was to see his girlfriend once, so he asked me to pretend to be his girlfriend.

Adam's mother really liked me, and she held my hand, earnestly telling me:

"Little Adam, mom thinks Grace is a good girl, you have to treat her well."

After Adam's mother passed away, Adam asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend.

I could hardly believe it, so of course, I agreed.

We started dating like normal couples.

Adam was very career-driven, and he had the capability; he ventured into entrepreneurship and achieved significant success in three years.

But when the company was expanding, he encountered problems; no one had confidence in him, and no investor was willing to invest in him.

Both of us came from ordinary families; I sold my house to support his startup, but it was just a drop in the bucket.

At this time, Lily Xavier returned to the country.

The heiress saved up her entire year's pocket money to invest in the company, becoming the largest shareholder.

She said she had great confidence in Adam's strategic vision, so she found a position in the company herself.

The two of them galloped through the business battles, their brilliance almost blinding me.

It has been over an hour since Adam left; I sent him a message:

"Is the situation troublesome?"

"Is there anything you want to say to me today?"

No reply at all.

He could always see Lily Xavier's work messages first, yet he would apologize to me after a long time, saying he didn't notice my message.

In his heart, perhaps she matters more to him than I do!
