Athilda's pov
I stared blankly at the coffee I was stirring, lost in thought. I still could not get over what happened yesterday. How dare he! Enzo is such a jerk. I am not pregnant, and yet he did not even let me be happy about it. He led me on, made me believe in something that was never real.
What I do not understand is why he even used protection. So why was he acting like he cared about the baby? Why did he treat me like I was fragile and needed looking after?
I was not assuming anything, but he really made it feel like he cared. Was he just playing with me?
He had the nerve to say, "This is not the right time, baby," like we were planning a next time. As if I was still desperate for him to get me pregnant.
He is delusional. I gave him a chance, and he wasted it. Now I am done. I will find another sperm donor, someone better looking, more appealing, and most importantly, someone who will not feed me false hope.
I will look for a man who was never my sister's ex, and who I will never have to see again once it is all over.
Ding!
The sound of the toaster brought me back to reality. I let out a long sigh and grabbed a plate, placing the toasted bread on it.
I was having breakfast alone. Enzo had left last night, because I made him leave. I could not stand being around him with the mood I was in.
After putting the toast on my plate, I grabbed the Nutella and started eating. I dipped the bread into the chocolate spread, then sipped my coffee.
Once I finished breakfast, I headed to the living room to continue tidying up. I had work today and I could not afford to be absent again, people were counting on me.
Already dressed, I was doing a quick touch-up when I noticed something on the floor near the couch.
A man's wallet. My brows rose. No one else had been here. No other man had stepped foot in my house except Enzo.
I do not know why, but a smile crept onto my face as I picked it up. When I finally got the wallet in my hand, I looked at it closely.
"Wow… A Louis Vuitton Damier Graphite bifold card case. Someone has expensive taste," I murmured to myself.
Let us see what is inside. Who knows? I might find something good enough to use for a little blackmail.
Of course, I was going to return his wallet without taking anything. I am not that kind of person. Hello? I do not want to get punished by God. What if He takes away all the happiness I have left?
Besides, I have my own money. Duh. I was just curious about what was inside this Louis Vuitton wallet. After all, it belongs to one of the most famous surgeons in the world. I slowly opened it, and the first thing I saw were his cards.
"Whoa… more than five!" I said to myself, impressed by the thick stack of credit and ID cards. Next, I checked one of the smaller pockets, and found cash.
I pulled it out and counted. "22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27… 27,600 dollars."
Not bad, huh? But I was still not satisfied, so I kept checking the other compartments. Then my mouth fell open when I saw something I did not expect, a condom. Strawberry-flavoured.
"Ew!"
Without thinking, I threw the wallet across the room.
Seriously, self? Acting like it is your first time seeing one? Chill. Stop pretending to be some innocent virgin girl.
I scratched my cheek, a bit embarrassed, and went to pick it back up. As I lifted the wallet, something fell out, a photo and a necklace.
I picked them up and took a closer look. The photo was of my sister, Talia, smiling as she looked out over the sea.
I flipped it over. Written on the back: I love you, beb. What the heck? HAHAHA! Their pet names are so cheesy! Beb~ Ajujuju~ HAHAHA!" I laughed, shaking my head.
Then I looked at the necklace. A gold chain with a small letter "A" pendant.
"Wow… Looks like Enzo is still in love with my sister."
Poor guy. I actually feel bad for him.
Wait, no, he deserves it! He gave me false hope. Let him suffer. Hmmm…
"This is getting interesting," I muttered, grinning. "Let us see what his next move will be to get her attention again."
Life really has a twisted sense of humour.
Out of all the people in the world, I had a one-night stand with Enzo, my sister's ex, who is now married to Lucien, my own ex.
What a joke. I brushed my hair aside and slipped the photo and necklace into my own wallet.
I might need these someday. If I ever confirm that Enzo was just playing with me, then I will return the favour. He messed with the wrong woman.

I arrived at St. Calisha Foundation Medical Center and was immediately greeted by Kristan.
"Hey, are you okay now?" he asked, looking worried.
I smiled at him. He looked extra cute when he was being all concerned.
"Yep," I replied casually.
"Let us go to my office. I need to check you," he said, though he did not sound convinced.
Oh, Kristan. You are starting to look adorable again in my eyes. I wanted to pinch his cheek, but I did not want to leave a mark like last time.
"You're acting like I am crazy, Tan. I'm fine, okay? But thanks for caring." I tapped his shoulder and smiled.
"Sorry I did not get to visit you yesterday," he said, scratching his head. "I had surgery."
I chuckled. "Stupid. That's fine. You're not required to check on me anyway. I'm just heading to my locker to drop off my stuff."
"I'll walk you there. Let us go."
"Sure," I said.
He put his arm around me as we walked down the hallway. He is always like this, so clingy, but I am used to him by now.
"By the way, let us eat lunch together later, okay?" he said, then flicked my nose.
"Ouch! That hurts!" I scowled.
He always does that! If he is not flicking my nose, he is pinching it.
"Hahaha! You are seriously too cute, baby," he said, pulling me close and giving me a hug.
"You're such a tease!" I said, reaching to pinch Kristan's nose in return. But I stopped when someone suddenly cleared their throat behind us.
Ahem…
We both turned, and there was Enzo, standing a few steps away, clearly doing it on purpose.
"Oh, hey Doc Enzo. What can we do for you?" Kristan said with a polite smile.
Hmm… If only my best friend knew what that man had done to me, he would not be smiling at him like that.
"Hey. Oh, nothing," Enzo replied, flashing Kristan a fake smile before turning to me.
"Ms. Athilda. Let's go to my office. We need to talk."
His voice was serious, but I raised my eyebrow. Who does he think he is? Since when were we even close?
"What? Why? No thanks," I replied and turned to Kristan. "Let's go."
I pulled Kristan by the arm, not even sparing Enzo another glance.
"What was that about?" Kristan asked, frowning.
"Nothing!"
"What if it was something important? Why did you turn him down?" he asked again, confused.
"It is nothing important, I swear. He just wants to ask a bunch of questions about my sister. Shh, okay? He's my sister's ex, and I think he's still in love with her. But come on, she already has a family of her own."
I did not know why, but telling Kristan that made me feel… a little happy.
"Oh, so he wants to ruin your sister's family just to get what he wants? What a selfish jerk." Kristan glanced back at Enzo and clenched his fist.
"Yeah, I think that's what he's trying to do." I laughed under my breath. This is fun. Maybe I really should go around telling everyone how pathetic he is, if he keeps bothering me.
"That guy is trash. If he ever tries to mess with you again, tell me right away."
"Hey, lower your voice. Someone might hear you," I whispered, though I could not help grinning. I stole a glance at Enzo, he looked frustrated now.
Good. I stuck my tongue out at him. "Bleh."
He just glared at me, so I rolled my eyes and walked away with Kristan toward the nurses' locker room.
When we got there, Kristan said he had to check on a patient, so he left right after dropping me off.
"We are still having lunch together, okay? See you around, baby Ath!" he said with a grin.
I just nodded and smiled back. I walked into the nurses' locker room and went straight to mine. I opened it to place my bag inside, but just as I was about to, I heard the door close behind me.
I turned fast, and saw Enzo standing there, face full of frustration.
"What are you doing here?" I snapped.
Told you. This annoying man would follow me.
"You, what do you think you're doing?" he shot back coldly.
I looked at him, unimpressed. "I'm putting my things in the locker. Can't you see?"
"Damn it!" he growled, his jaw tightening.
"What's wrong with you? You look ridiculous," I snapped, annoyed, slamming my locker shut.
I walked past him, ready to leave, but he grabbed my arm.
"Is he your boyfriend?" he asked, staring straight into my eyes.
His gaze was so intense that I swallowed hard and quickly looked away.
"What? Who?" I asked, pretending not to understand.
"Dr. Tan," he said, clearly talking about Kristan. Oh. So that is what this is about.
Well, for the record, Kristan and I are just friends. He is just naturally clingy, which makes people think there is something going on between us. But hey, what do you expect? We are in this part of the world, people love drama.
"Why do you care? None of your business. Now, move. Go away," I said, trying to shove him aside.
"Just answer the damn question!" he snapped.
His cheeks were red, his hair a mess. He looked really mad.
Oh no, he is very angry, girls.
"He's my babypie!" I blurted out with a smirk. "Jealousy much?"
I stepped back with a mocking laugh. "Too bad your little beb already has a whole family now. Oops..bye!"
I stuck my tongue out at him again, turned on my heel, and ran before he could get close enough to explode.
"Damn it!" he shouted, his voice echoing down the hallway.
I laughed to myself. That felt so good.
He deserves it. For all the times he led me on, it is only fair I mess with his head a little.
Payback time, baby.
