## Chapter 39: The Elfess Auction and the Price
---
After many items were displayed, the announcer declared "the most valuable item in this auction." The lights intensified, and the curtain was drawn back to reveal a large glass cage.
Inside the cage was a female Elf, her silver hair cascading over her shoulders, and her blue eyes gleaming with fear and despair. She was dressed in ragged clothes, and on her wrists and ankles were rough metal restraints, which appeared to be mana suppressors, meaning they prevented her from using her magical abilities.
"This rare Elfess," the announcer boomed, "possesses an immense amount of pure mana! She is an invaluable energy source, and can be used for any purpose, from enhancing spells to powering ancient devices!"
Lux felt the immense mana power emanating from the Elfess, despite the restraints. The amount of mana in her was exceptional, and he knew she would be a very good addition to his group. Not just as a source of power, but as a living being from whom he could benefit in a deeper understanding of this world and its magical powers.
The bidding on the Elfess began. Prices rose at a frenzied pace.
"One billion!"
"One and a half billion!"
"Two billion!"
The competition was fierce, as everyone wanted this rare Elfess.
The bid reached 3 billion. Lux knew this was the right time to intervene.
"4 billion!" Lux shouted in a strong, clear voice that echoed through the hall.
Everyone was shocked. The auction stopped. Everyone looked towards Lux, this mysterious merchant who had bid an insane amount.
"Four billion! Does anyone bid higher?!" the announcer shouted, staring at Lux in astonishment.
The hall fell silent. No one dared to raise the bid.
"Congratulations, sir!" the announcer said. "The Elfess is now yours!"
Lux approached the glass cage and looked at the Elfess. Her blue eyes stared at him with fear, but there was a glimpse of curiosity as well. He had bought her. Now, he had to take her and ensure her safety.
