Chapter 13 – “My Stepmom Enrolled Me in a Magical Boy Beauty Pageant (and I Accidentally Won)”

1: Normal Morning? Nope. Never Heard of It.

I woke up to the smell of waffles, the sound of my stepmom humming, and an ominous sparkle aura floating around my room like glitter had declared war on physics.

"Wakey wakey, my dazzling dumpling~!"

The door slammed open.

There she stood: Mizuki-san, my ridiculously hot, magical, totally chaotic stepmother — wearing a silk robe, sunglasses indoors, and holding a bedazzled clipboard.

I blinked. "I'm scared."

"You should be. Today is your transformation debut!"

"…My what now?"

She twirled dramatically. "You've been entered in the prestigious, once-in-a-decade Magical Boy Beauty Pageant!"

"No," I said.

"Yes," she smiled.

"You can't just sign me up for things like that—wait, did you say magical?"

"I already sent in your measurements, blood type, and three embarrassing baby photos."

I paused. "Wait—why do you have my blood type?"

She winked. "Moms know things."

2: The Magical Boy Registry and Sparkle Bootcamp

I was dragged — by hairdryer aura — into her enchanted car (a talking convertible named Barry) and deposited in front of MAGIBOY HQ — a building shaped like a sparkling disco ball that had been possessed by a rainbow.

Inside: chaos.

Boys in frilly tuxedos, enchanted scepters, sparkly eyeshadow, floating hair curlers, and one guy summoning glitter tornadoes while screaming "BEAUTY IS PAIN!"

My stylist — a talking ferret named Fabio — handed me a contract written in cursive fire.

"Sign here to unlock your beauty potential."

"I want to go home."

"You don't have a home anymore. You have a runway."

3: Training Montage (Insert 80s Music Here)

Over the next 48 hours, I:

Learned to twirl in heels while dodging magic lasers

Perfected a tragic backstory pose (chin tilt: 30°, gaze: haunted but hopeful)

Was nearly assassinated by a jealous elf in a crop top

Developed a special move called "Hoodie Heartbeam" that shoots concentrated awkward energy

I also learned that every contestant had:

A sad past

A sparkly transformation sequence

A fan club with posters (mine was run by Lilith, obviously)

Sayuri showed up once. She handed me a dagger and said, "In case anyone tries anything." Then she disappeared again.

Mizuki, meanwhile, wore matching outfits and tried to bribe the judges with enchanted banana bread.

4: The Pageant Begins – Glitter and Betrayal

The crowd roared.

I was ushered backstage in a half-cape, magical combat boots, and eyeliner so sharp it could slice through dimensions.

My competition:

Sparkle Knight Leo – blonde, beautiful, deadly

Emo Vampire Prince Zayne – whose backstory included "cursed love" and "murdered by moonlight"

Magical DJ Juno – summoned bass drops with his wand

Me – an anxious hoodie boy with a haunted toaster and no idea what I was doing

The emcee floated down in a bubble. "LET THE FABULOUS FIGHT COMMENCE!"

Each round included:

Runway duel with magical projections

Soul-depth poetry slam

Transformation ballet combat

When it was my turn, my body moved on instinct. I twirled. I posed. I accidentally tripped into a split.

The audience screamed.

The glitter tornado guy fainted.

Lilith stood on her chair and screamed, "YES KING!"

5: The Final Round – And a Surprise Visitor

Just before the final round — the Emotional Expression Catwalk — Sayuri showed up in the audience.

She was wearing all black, holding a sign that read:

"YOU BETTER WIN OR DIE EMBARRASSINGLY"

Somehow, that motivated me.

I stepped onto the stage, took a deep breath… and told my story.

About being average. About chaos. About hiding behind jokes and hoodies. About finding weird family, and weirder love, in a world full of insanity.

The audience was dead silent.

Then someone started crying.

Then someone yelled, "MARRY ME!"

I think it was a judge.

6: The Winner Is…

Fireworks exploded. Confetti rained.

The crown hovered in the air… and landed.

On my head.

I had won.

The Magical Boy Beauty Pageant Champion of the Decade.

I didn't even know what I won exactly.

But Mizuki was sobbing. Lilith had passed out from screaming. Sayuri smirked like she'd trained me for this moment.

7: Epilogue – Wait, What's the Prize Again?

Back at home, I held my trophy, still in my sparkly outfit.

Mizuki kicked open the door with a letter.

"You've been invited to the Magical World Council Tournament of Ultimate Love and Conflict!"

I blinked. "Wait. That's a real thing?"

She nodded. "You'll be representing Earth. As its Most Beautiful Warrior."

I fell onto the floor.

"Can I just go back to class and fail math in peace?!"

Lilith leaned over me. "Nope. You're stuck being hot now."
