Chapter 4

I was stunned, and tears welled up in my eyes again.

I'm so sorry, Papa, Mamma. I can only repay you in the next life.

Logan had been up for several nights in a row and was on edge. "Your daughter is missing, shouldn't you be looking for her? What good does calling me do? I'm in the middle of a case!"

My father was too frantic to notice Logan's impatient tone. "Mr. Carbone... I'm begging you, you have incredible power... Please, help me find Jasmine! She's really missing! I haven't heard from her in days!"

Logan's impatience grew exponentially. "Your daughter sent me a 'goodbye' text before she vanished. A missing person doesn't pull a stunt like that. She's just hiding."

"And another thing, I'm dealing with a life-or-death matter for the family, not some civilian's runaway case. Also—when your daughter decides to show up, tell her we're through. Don't come to me about her again. I will absolutely not use family resources to help her!"
