Apprentice(Remake)

"How do I meditate?" Was it like Yoga?

[The System will help the host in the process, so the host only needs to close their eyes and try to feel the energy in the surroundings.]

After a bit of hesitation, Adam sat down and did as he was told to, closing his eyes and trying to feel some kind of energy in the air.

More and more minutes passed by, and Adam was increasingly getting more impatient when something finally happened.

In front of him, a mist-like unknown thing was swirling around. Its color was impossible to describe with words, and the same for its shape. He was both a bit scared and excited.

It was strange. His eyes were closed but he somehow could tell its shape and movement. He couldn't actually see it, but he could feel it.

Suddenly, some kind of transparent vortex appeared in the area near his head, and the mist around him was being sucked by it at an insane rate. It went on like that for ten minutes or a little less before the vortex disappeared and everything returned to normal.

Adam opened his eyes and let out a breath as he stood up. He could feel something different as he breathed out, this was the most refreshing breath he ever let out in his entire life.

He never felt his mind to be so clear before, and he could feel like he was able to think and process things faster, like a computer that had its old parts swapped for newer, better ones. It was an addicting sensation.

[The system congratulates the host for becoming an Apprentice and entering the magic world. Does the host want their reward now?]

"Before that, do people become Apprentices so easily like this?" Adam is skeptical about becoming a so called Apprentice in some minutes. Was it really that easy to get magic powers?

[That's the mission's reward, the vortex in your mind was the system doing. You would have to learn how to guide the mana in the air towards your mind manually otherwise.]

"Ok then, give me the other rewards." The system didn't tell how long it would take to do that but Adam didn't care to ask.

With 3 flashes of light, a staff made of high-quality wood, a pitch-black robe, and a scroll appeared on the ground.

"What is this thing?" Adam picked up the scroll and was answered by the system's cold voice.

[Low-rank spell Fireball, do you want to learn it?]

[Yes/No]

"Yes." Adam nodded. Knowledge about the spell was injected into his mind as he felt a slight headache, and the scroll turned the dust while still in his hand. The dust flew away with a slight gust of wind and all trace of the scroll disappeared.

The knowledge taught how to guide magical energy into the right shape, use a chant to turn the energy into fire, and shoot it into the target.

After the headache passed Adam eagerly picked up the wooden staff on the ground, pointed it to a tree, and started chanting in an ancient language.

"Fire, shape thy form into a sphere and destroy mine enemies, Fireball!"

As Adam began to chant, magical power swirled around him before ending at the tip of his staff in a ball-like shape and slowly starting to spin, before igniting and turning into a fireball slightly bigger than a tennis ball.

He aimed the staff at a nearby tree and tried to will the mass of magic power to shoot. The fireball flew forward like an arrow and made a small explosion when it hit the trunk.

Adam was overjoyed at his success and ran to check the tree trunk. The place the fireball hit was charred black with a small hole half a centimeter deep.

'Now that I think about it, why did I use a fire spell inside a forest...' Adam was grateful that his overexcitement didn't start a wildfire.

His mind started to feel a little tired after he used Fireball. Adam guessed that he could use the spell two times before becoming really sleepy.

After using the spell he swapped his clothes with the black robe on the ground and asked:

"System what does this staff and this robe help with?" Adam couldn't help but ask. Even if they didn't do anything he would probably still wear them anyway, he felt they were kind of cool.

[The Apprentice's staff slightly increases the power of your spells and casting speed, and the Apprentice's robe gives slight defense against magical and psychical attacks.]

After getting his answer, Adam asked what ranks mages have, and to check his status.

[The mage ranks are Apprentice, Magus, Adepti, Magister, Grandmagister, Archmage and Lord of Arcane. Most of them are divided between First Circle, Second Circle, and Third Circle.]

[Host]: Adam

[Magic Power]: 10/20

[Rank]: Apprentice(First Circle)

[Spells]: Fireball

[Equipment]: Apprentice's Staff, Apprentice's Robe

"Okay then System, tell me overall information about this world." Adam noticed the system answers basically anything he asks about, so might as well ask everything he can.
