Arrows flew one after another as the merchants hid behind their carriages. Their hired escorts also took cover from behind and those who had bows shot arrows taking advantage of the time as the bandits reloaded their bows.
Christian was no different although he had a wind spell which could block normal arrows and act as a shield. It consumed mana and it was only limited to block those in front of him.
Their current situation was dire as there were bandits on their left and right hiding among the trees. And to make it worse Christian could see that a bunch of mounted swordsmen were on their way.
If Alpha and the rest were here this would've been easier to handle. But unfortunately they were not.
It appeared that Jade also knew of the upcoming danger so she warned Christian and told them to escape. But he knew that it wouldn't be that easy as there were already an ambush waiting for them if ever they tried to flee.
Those men preparing to ambush wore white cloaks making it hard to see them together in this snow-covered forest.
To be honest, just by transforming into any random beast that he could transform to. Escaping would be like a walk in a park.
But Christian isn't one to abandon his friends just because things were getting hard. At worst he'll just have to expose the fact that he could transform into a beast. But when you think of it, the fact that he could transform into a beast could be easily covered up.
Ding! Mandatory Quest Received (ChainQuest 1/2)!
Quest Requirements: At least terminate 30 bandits.
Quest Rewards: 3500 SCP
Hearing the systems notifications Christian already made up his mind to at least kill the minimum numbers before escaping if unavoidable.
I hope that there are more people like Ruff who is more likely an expert that is at least a rank-5 expert!
"Jade, hide somewhere safe and always be prepared to escape on your own!" Christian warned as he runs towards to the right side of the caravan where the arrows came from.
"Wai- What Hey!" Jade was shocked to see him rushing off like that. Although she knew he was strong but not the extent of being capable to withstand a hail of arrows. Even rank-7 experts weren't capable of such feat.

After making sure that no was paying attention to him, he crawled under a carriage just in case and tried to transform into Luna when an unexpected error occurred.
"Form has taken major damages unable to transform! Would you like to begin recuperation? Y/N?"
Without hesitation, Christian quickly clicked yes!
"Confirmed! Beginning recuperation..."
Christian already headed to a nearby bandit in his Devil Raven form and devoured its unlucky should.
"Ding! 1 bandit killed 29 to go!"
"Ding!..."
"Ding!..."
Bandits were killed one after another without a hitch and soon enough no arrows were shot coming from the right side.
The escorts responsible for fending off the attack from the right side were shocked as they watched the lifeless bodies of bandits fell with a thud.
The bandit's withered corpses gave the escorts quite a scare but now was not the time to be distracted as they proceeded to help the fight at the front lines who were on the verge of losing because of the mounted attacks.
Christian who was already on the way to the left side to clear it. He was only able to kill 12 bandits and the people at the left side should be enough to reach half the required kills.
A battle with an archer geared with no arrows capable of damaging a soul-form beast like a Devil Raven is just a one-sided massacre. Retaliating was impossible!
Soon the left side was cleared and Christian decided to kill the one at the back. But upon arriving on the back side. All that was left were footsteps left by at least 10 men.
Apparently, the one commanding the bandits were quite smart
Christian sighed and the thought of losing such easy preys escaping pains his heart.
"I'll just follow them later..." Christian thought. As he hasn't even finished the quest yet. Luckily, it had no time limit because if it has one then he wouldn't be slowly walking now towards Jade who's running towards him. Instead, he would've have followed over them and finish this chain quest. It's quite an exciting experience to have a chain quest as quest likes this usually leads to some background story or something.
"Where did you ran off to?" Jade asked with some hint of anger and worry on her face.
Christian gave in to her pressuring gaze and answered honestly. "I went and help kill some bandits. Now if it weren't for me then there could've been more casualties."
Hearing his words Jade just rolled her eyes seeming not to have believed any words he said. So she just turned around and prepared to walk away.
"Hey, Where are you going?" Christian asked as he tried chasing her to have a dinner but to no avail what he got from her were a common way to decline, "I'm busy".
His stomach grumbled as if protesting to have it fed. If Christian was able to cook his own food then he would've done so long ago. But ever since selling his cooking skills even roasting a chicken became a hassle. At least out of 5 tries trying to roast some meat he almost burned them all every single time.
When he finally asked the system for the reason why. It only told him that once a skill was stolen or sold via the system not only you would have lost it, the chance to learn it once again is impossible. However, it is not without anyways at least for Christian. All he had to do was buy a cooking skill from the system. But the catch is that you would have to buy it twice the original prize and this applied to every sold or stolen skills.
People like Garen had absolutely no way to regain his once lost [GreatSword Art] skill.
At the time Christian managed to mingle with some adventurers who were eating some sort of gruel. He managed to saw Jade sneaking out from the corner of his eyes together with a sack at her back. But he paid her no heed as he proceeded to eat his food.
After all, this has been happening almost every other night since he was with her. So he continued to eat the tasteless gruel with the thoughts of finding Jade doing her "nightly business".
